Leveling Cata JC and Enchanting

Hey everyone,

I really value the expertise that the people in this forum have in regards to professions, and I had a couple of questions about leveling them.

I finally caved and power leveled a DK to 80 because I hate alts, and sent him 30K to powerlevel JC and Enchanting. He just got to Cata level items, and I am finding that the mats are not only scarce, but ridiculously priced to make any real progress. My main is a BS and a miner. I am running Blackrock caverns to DE the greens and such, but even then I am only yielding 1-2 dusts per DE which seems like a huge waste of time for a profession that takes about 350-400 dust to level according to wowprofessions.com .

With the JC, on my server the jewels don't even really exist for the low level items (jasper, mainly, so I can DE the rings after I make them).

So, I guess my question is is there really no other way to get the mats if they aren't available, and if so, should I be farming obsidian and the like (yuck) to just prospect the gems? And, a follow up, are the Cata enchants worth putting in a vellum and the cut gems worth selling on the AH? Is there a market for these lower level items?

I farmed obsidian last time I levelled JC. not that long ago.

Hit up Vashj and just farm it in no time, prospect it for gems. It does not take all that long.

Ench may be a pain, some cata enchants my be worth it, as they all scale now on heirlooms, and some lower level ones scale better than MoP ones, someone posted a spreadsheet on these forums somewhere on how they all scale, but as I'm not planning levelling anymore alts, I did not save it sry.

Jusr follow a mining leveling guide. Prospect the ores. Normally there are 2 ores per expansion + a s[ecialist one. The lowest level gives you more common gems, the middle one is the most common and produces more rares and the final one you can more or less ignore as its specialist and only for a few recipes.

Fel iron + adamantite?
Cobalt+ Saronite.
Obsidium+ elementium
Ghost iron


Just farm and vendor. you only have to do it once.

Yes, you absolutely need to farm ore for this to work. As you said there is a HUGE bottleneck with cata level material since the material costs for ALL professions are very high and the time to level is not that much. For example, LW is 5-7g per piece of leather and you end up needing 100s of leather. Something like 400? Pandaria is not nearly as bad.

Also at 90 I've been doing quick clears of blackrock descent? - the beginning 5 man in cata. You can clear it in 15 min at ilvl 500 and can accumulate quite a few blues/greens.
