Cool Death Knight ♥ Monk ♡ is in your opinion..

Let's talk about the only two classes that has been added to the game since forever. Rigth.

    Ignoring stats and performance.
What do you think of their gameplay mechanics?

Have Blizzard done a good job so far with adding 6 new specilizations on top of the 28 specilizations that is from the basic classes.

So what is your opinion about Brewmaster, Unholy, Mistweaver, Blood, Windwalker and Frost gameplay mechanics?

I think the DKs mechanics are pretty solid, though they don't appeal to me personally. The class definitely exudes the dark, sinister vibe.

I feel that the Monks mechanics are very good. It just needs some tweaks to healing and its DPS spec. The Tanking spec is damn near perfect IMO.

I'm glad that blizzard brought in the more light-hearted monk class after the dark DK class. I hope the next class is in the middle; not too light-hearted, and not too serious.

Monk tanking just feels so terribly wrong to me. Where does he take that infinite supply of barrels from? He's supposed to be about martial arts, why is 50% of his attacks as a tank involve barrels of beer and breathing fire? And Clash seems like an awkward compromise between Charge and Death Grip. Roll is also a bit weird... why can't a rogue roll? For WW, FoF seems infinitely awkward to use due to having to stand still. Fistweaving is a very interesting healing style, a shame it's sub-optimal and should not be used where performance matters.

As for DKs, they're solid. Well, aside from frost theme, but it's just my personal preference.

It comes down to whether I like Death Gripping or Rolling more.

    Hrm...

I think i'll go with Death Grip for now.

Monks have the most awesome gameplay I've experienced for a long time. Brewmasters at least, anyway. Tanking as a brewmaster is really fun. There's a lot of buttons you need to push but managing everything is enjoyable and the returns you get for doing it well are phenomenal.

Because that was what the original Brewmaster was about?

Besides, it's only about a fourth of his abilities and Breath of Fire is useless for almost every fight in the game. It's an ability to mow through trash when shuffle is at a safe duration.

Note that he didn't throw infinite barrels, he kinda breathed ethanol on enemies. And it had a cooldown.

Why don't they at least carry a barrel on their backs like monk trainers? Or use an actual drunken stance?

Mnk will be my main in WoD (outside beta destroying the class for whatever reason).
Thought about switching to DK in cata, stayed paladin, again in MoP but ended playing enhshamy again.

Monk accomplished what DK couldn't do, well done.

Windwalker suffered heavily from Blizzard trying to not repeat the OP DK mistake and people still called them out as "OP because Blizzard never learns." Oh the tangled webs we weave when we practi-scratch that, when we don't read up on or practice against a class with some obvious weaknesses if played by the FOTM PVPer.

Seriously, though, hoping Celestalon pulls his head out of his cloaca and gives Fists of Fury a makeover and not just "more damage so you'll want to use it."
Soothing Mist:"Healing them for a minor amount every 0.5 sec, until you take any other action."
Jade Serpent Statue: "The statue will also begin casting Soothing Mist on your target. healing for 50% as much as yours. "
    [What's half of minor?]
"Statue casts Soothing Mist at a nearby ally for toddler healing."

And other classes have other immersion-breaking effects too, so what? Warriors crack the earth with a stomp, a gnome can successfully tank Supremeus, fire damage can hurt Ragnaros. It's a silly thing to complain about, imo.

Because no class has that sort of unique special effect (though you can get a barrel for your back) and they do have a stance.

Haven't played a DK but I have a pretty decently geared 90 Monk for both MW and WW (never went BM though).

I played a warrior for years, and the WW monk is what a warrior should have been. Extremely high skill cap and alot more fun then a warrior, just not as good at the moment.

The only negative drawback about the WW Monk is that you really don't ever use your weapons.. They should have made the jab animation make you swing your weapon instead of just punching. Even with a fist weapon equipped, you don't see it with the jab..

Um. Wat. Like, for serious: wat. Jab changes for staves, polearms, swords, axes and maces and will show you weapons being used and only applying Glyph of Jab will prevent that. (Fists weapons are the only thing except from being shown because... I have no idea.)

I think they're both excellent. The one thing that concerns me about Monks is that I found their bars surprisingly cluttered considering they're a brand new modern class.

Yeesh a melee class has to stand still for one ability, welcome to the world ranged live every day! Kegs harken back to the fact this is a BREWmaster, and breathing fire fits in with some of your wackier kung fu movies :P

Fistweaving like Smite healing should never be optimal otherwise Monk healers just get to DPS for free.

I think they said it was some kind of animation issue they'd like to fix.

To be fair, as impossible as it must have been for Blizzard to balance it, I liked DKs a HELL of a lot more when all 3 specs could tank. As easy as they were, some of my best experiences in WoW to date have been from spamming WotLK random heroics with all 3 tank specs. At first, I liked Unholy SO MUCH MORE. Unholy Blight in its original form was hilarious - your AoE damage was utterly godlike. Coupled with the DnD stuns etc, you were basically invincible. For raid tanking, I liked Blood more, Will of the Necropolis was so strong. I enjoyed seeing what people did with Frost tanking, though it was never my favorite.

When they split up the specs, I lost a lot of interest. The only thing I really like about DK dps these days is the fact that it's so fast paced. There's nothing particularly challenging about either spec, but Unholy especially has to really button-mash sometimes. Blood tanking is fun enough I guess, although, like most tanks, you only really have "fun" (imo) when you're really getting smashed. More vengeance, more reason to use active mitigation i.e DS perfectly. When you're not in any real danger, it's not half so enjoyable. It doesn't matter when you DS, and you hit like a wet noodle.

They both add something different, I respect people that like them and play them well, but I don't see myself maining or playing a new class seriously. I like to stick with my priest. Closest I came to doing that was tanking alt raids on a Blood DK in BWD/BoT/To4W at the beginning of Cata when that shit was OP and the easiest thing in the world. Then mained frost DK during Dragon Soul, then I just went priest and havn't played another class since.

Monks do need some quality of life fixes. Making FoF like Earthquake would be a compromise I think.

So, totally useless and a complete waste of a GCD? Or simply magical fists punching the air by themselves while you do other things?

Something like the latter or maybe have a monk spirit(?) take your place then and you can do other things.

Wrath DK's were stupid OP, glad they didn't make the same mistake with Monks.
