Bill Nye vs Ken Ham: Evolution hoedown!

Because I thought this was interesting. Link: http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/...s-live-tonight

Although as much as I dislike "earth is 6000 years old" people, gotta give some respect to wanting to debate a well known science promoter.

I just keep getting errors with the feed

Had to leave the office part way through Nye's first go, but Ham was pretty atrocious.

Even talking to them legitimizes their bullshit.

I actually dated for a year and a half a guy whose family owns a creationist museum in Glen Rose. Do you know how awkward that was for me when i had to keep my mouth shut while they talked about how modern science is wrong?

Anyways, i thought it was interesting.

And just think, there are public schools that teach Ham's bullshit.

Everything Ken Ham keeps going to boils down to, "it is possible because magic."

Listening to Ken Ham makes me cringe. "There's a book that tells us where matter comes from" -what?

Also, someone should tell him about

Earth is not the center and be-all-end-all of "creation".

What a fucking disgrace to the human race, I can't fathom why anyone would believe these asinine theories.
Like Rukentuts said; although he isn't just holding this country back. He, along with all the other like him, are holding the whole world back.
These aren't the spoilers you're looking for.

    Move along.

Most times this kind of debate hurts logical arguments in favor of science more than it helps. It also opens up ridiculous viewpoints as legitimate as they are part of the debate. So regardless of a proper debate "win" or "loss" I think it does nothing more than cause us all to lose a bit because it gives legitimacy to many inane theories and irresponsible people.

As much as I love idiots being owned, this thread is a bit rulebreaking.

This thread is borderline enough that I think it'll lead to religion bashing if it continues, so I'm just going to proactively close it before I have to get "frownyface" on people.
