I understand the mechanism, but I too have a problem when public events start to dictate a dress code onto you. When they tell you what brand you can wear, and what brand you cannot wear. What phone you can have on you, and what phone you cannot have on you. Stuff like that I believe crosses the line.
If the conditions to participate in an event are something that you can't agree with then you're well within your rights to not participate. Still what I got is that they're not forced to avoid using these things during the Olympics; they just can't mention that they're using them or publicly display them. Not hard to put a media device in your pocket while you wait for your event to start.
