So, what do you all think about this? Will we repeat what caused the Vietnam war (attacking the enemy in order to have them retaliate, giving us a casus belli against them), will the Iranian ships just float around for a few hours and then head home with nothing accomplished or what do you think will come of this?

They'll float around and leave, there is absolutely zero chance they cross into US waters. The reuters article is the only one I read and it hinted that it might be a bluff by the Iranians and that no ships are on the way.

What's stupid is provoking the U.S.
China nor Russia would risk World War by intervening on the side of the Iranians. They'd be on their own since their only real ally, Syria, is in the midst of civil war.

First of all, they haven't actually done this yet - and on previous occasions have stated their intention to do precisely this and then never followed through. Second, who cares? Their navy is a joke - a couple of frigates that can barely make the distance much less do anything war-worthy when they arrive. Finally, it's Iran - they are all talk and no bite. Another propaganda tool so they can continue to oppress their people in the name of fighting "the great Satan".
