    Arrow Mass Effect 4 Speculation

    A speculation discussion about ME4.

Only known facts about the plot is that it will be a completely unrelated story to that of the original trilogy. That means, probably no one or organization from the trilogy will appear there.

    That's it!

    Your thoughts?

I want the protagonist to be Asari! Or, better, choice between a few origins, like in Dragon Age: Origins.

I thought we've been over this!

I think it will be something entirely tangential to the originals, so that you'll be playing an anti-hero (think Han Solo type character). I also think a more narrow focus in a larger universe would be possible (as in, more playable area, but no galaxy spanning threat). This would let them keep it in the same timeframe, but entirely unrelated to the events of Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3.

I suppose they could revive the dark energy threat that was described in ME1 and built on in ME2, then glossed over with the bullshit ending in ME3.

    Un-fucking-likely, though.

It will be a Mass Effect game - that means biotics, likely similar gameplay to ME3, similar weaponry etc, and probably the same level of RP in the G as ME3. However, they've shown they're entirely willing to say fuck you to fans and story and just ship a turd, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

It's most likely a sequel, it's not going to feature Shepard, and that is all I know. There are rumors about N7 playing a part, but I think it's more likely they will answer demands for race choices.

Probably going to be some shitty prologue

Don't even bother with the ending. Every possible scenario = star child did it.

this would be perfect. much as I enjoyed Mass Effect it just cannot compare to Dragon Age: Origins. the ability to create your character from different races and backgrounds instead of just by gender and which sidequest will pop up and the choices going beyond just paragon and renegade made it a much more personal experience. if they could do that in the Mass Effect universe and do it well then it'd probably even get me to pre-order, something I almost never do

but of course the chances of EA letting them do that will probably depend largely on whether DA:I is a strong enough financial success to prove that giving them the time and freedom needed to make great a great game is more profitable than rushing out a quick cash-in

    Mass Effect 4.

The Reapers are defeated, but at what cost? Other threats lurk in the galaxy and only one man has the courage to stand up and take Shepard's mantle.

Well, only one man and his biotic volus sidekick that is.

for mass effect, i would see something more along the line of a dragon age.

a few race playable, each with their starting planet, and their own personal goal. Race i can see playable would be
    - Human (duh!)
    - Turian
    - Asari
    - Quarian (without mask, they have adapted on their new planet)
    - Salarian

I do not see krogan, geth or batarian playable.

Class wise, i see the 6 classes return with possibly more specialisation. For instance they could have each class branch out into 2 advanced class making a total of 12 class.
Alternatively, they could go with a class free games, elder scrolls style, but i feel this is unlikely IMO.

Game will be a TPS/RPG, but i can see them adding more MAKO (and other races equivalent) driving or some form of free space flying and dog fighting (they did it in swtor).

*** some spoiler about mass effect 3 ending included****

Storywise, i can see this happening 500-1,000 years after the event of mass effect 3. Shepard is a legend and has its own statue on the citadel now in orbit around earth. Earth is the new galaxy capital, the citadel being converted into a military space base (it's a weapon after all).

Since i don't see a good story with the green ending (though it is bioware's prefered ending), nor the red ending, i would contruct a scenario on the blue ending, with reaper being full part of glactic civilization.

Threat could come from another galaxy (andromeda for example), the whole trilogy 1-3 is based on the milky way galaxy. A new powerful, highly advanced race invades the milky way and start exterminating and enslaving races. The reapers controlled by shepard are fighting invaders but are slowly being defeated. And you, the hero, have to go behind enemy line, in the galaxy home of the invaders, learning about the new threat, their strength their weakness, their goal. Sort of a spec ops operation to weaken the enemy from within.

To reach the other galaxy, you would need to acquire a new technology since reaper tech cannot allow to travel to other galaxy and learn to use it. In the andromeda galaxy, you could liberate enslaved species, find allies, explore completely uncharted space and species. You would ultimately discover that this galaxy isn't the home world of the invaders but a galaxy that has fallen to them, and you would liberate and unite them to fight the mysterious invaders.

You would learn that this invaders are the most ancien race of the univers, first known civilization since the original big bang, have conquered dozens (hundred?) of galaxy, occupied millions (billions?) of world and are expending their hold on the universe exponentially. Such adversary cannot and will not be defeated, but can the milky way be saved somehow?

anyway, that's a scenario i have in my head.

As long as it's not an prequel, I probably won't complain.

    Mass effect 4: beyond microtransactions

Everytime you press a button you lose action points, which regenerate at 1 per day, thats right if you want to move forward, you can move 1 step per day, dont worry you can buy more points in the handy EA approved action point store!
Story is optional, ie, you pay for each chapter, there is a shitty ending you can "play" for free, but if you want a decent one, go grab that creditcard!

But more sensibly, no idea, they kind of ballsed up the ending of ME3 so its hard to see how they go anywhere from there.

Not sure what could top the reapers though. They weren't necessarily a great villain but I feel it would be underwhelming if the next villain had a much weaker strength.

I think it'd be cool if they went to a completely new galaxy.

It could be something completely different, though. I don't think we necessarily need the traditional main villain, the threat of the game could be e.g. scarcity, survival (ala Walking Dead) or the like. Maybe revisit the dark energy plot and expand upon that.

It will have elevator rides instead of loading screens with catchy music.

Its very simple. as long as the ending is better then ME3 i couldnt care less, they have proven to be capable of making a great story. they just suck at the ending.

My only request: don't make the story about a earth soldier! Its cliche and does not draw me into the story.

Instead, I'd like to see the player character be a non soldier (or at least start out as a non soldier), and have the option to play as an alien. To me, playing as a ordinary Turian scientist who is, for one reason or another, is unexpectatedly thrust into the role of a leader who has to make do with what he has makes for a very interesting background.

And PLEASE: let us actually control the ship!

Honestly I would like the next Mass Effect to take a non-military perspective. It worked great for Shepard, but I'd love to have something that (and please don't hate me for this) resembles Firefly. In essence, a space cowboy with a ragtag crew trying to run supplies (okay maybe contracted by the Alliance) to various races that have been stranded or set up camps while the Mass Relays are being rebuilt. The struggle comes when bandits and marauders start attacking supply ships, then it comes down to cunning smugglers with quick wits, sharp tongues, and itchy trigger fingers to help out the stranded aliens and colonies.

Can something less epic (in scope) be as exciting as fighting the Reapers? I think so. Its about making it personal for the player and investing the player in the story and characters, something Bioware has typically been good at.

The big key to making ME4 work will be, in my opinion, a continuation of the theme that all races can work together to make the galaxy a better place. I think if ME4 loses that element then it will lose that special something that made the series near and dear to my heart.

ME4, Shepherd is the bad guy after gaining the reaper info from the tower in the first game... Despite being rebuilt...
