People are just too obsessed with their own personal stats and forget its a "team" game.
Though, as support you shouldn't really being going for kills, but if you get 1 or 2, its not the end of the world.

In my opinion, a support is more than it was in Season 3, we're not just a random dude who runs around and wards. We're initiators, or even bursty mages if we decide to go that path. A fed Leona or Annie is rather scary to face, or even a Thresh who hooks you and pops talisman, flies in and cage you all while his team is rushing for you, and on top of it all - he's darn near to be immortal. But yeah, they dont need all kills ^^ But a few dosnt hurt.
A fed Leona is shieldwall who can take all punish enemy team can do and cc them to death, I'd even go and say a fed Leona is much better than any other role in game fed, she will tank for her whole team to do as much dmg as they want
