Define main, please! I can see myself playing another character more than my current main, but I'll probably stick to the current when it comes to an actual achievement hunting. Raids and PvP are obviously a bit of an issue here, since I probably won't be able to replicate every achi earned by any other character, but I'll try!

Also, guild roster displays only character achievements, so... Never gonna swap that permanently! : D

I've actually switched main from my Rdruid to my Paladin, however, I still played my Dudu to get those reputations to Exalted. I'm not bothered too much about the achievements though, e.g. missing all heroic raid achievements from the first tier of MoP, I can get those easily if I wanted to.

At the moment I see both my Paladin as well as my Rdruid as my 'mains', since I play them almost equally, and raid on both. It's mainly because I hate dpsing as feral and moonkin so much these days -my paladin however satisfies that part. Perhaps with the changes coming in WoD I'll settle completely for one or the other like I used to.

more or less, also because I've been a fan of the shamans since wc3. I do sometimes find other classes as a lot more fun, but I just enjoy coming back to the one char it all started on.

Many reasons I stick to my main:

    - Reputation! I am not talking about Raising reputations. I am talking about some unobtainable ones, like the Centaur ones from old Desolace or Zandalar Tribe. I got them on my main but can never get them on my alt.
    - Achievements! Even though the achievements are "accountwide" there is still the "Not earned by" thing that prevents me from rerolling. Especially since all of my Feat of Strenght that now are unobtainable. I want everything earned on my main.
    - Statistics! I have sampled every food, killed every boss, done everything on my main. This "hidden" statistics matter more then you think.
    - ITEMS! Most important. My main has tons and tons of fun vanity items, for instance Onyxia attunement neck. As well as transmog. Having old dungeon set 1 and 2 as well as tier 3 on my main. I can't get much xmog and I won't pay houndreds of thousands for new t3 for my alts.

Rerolling in WoW is IMPOSSIBLE for me and for many others.

Wow has a lot to learn from Diablo 3, where everything is accountwide for real.

I've certainly kept an "Achievement" main because of it yes... my Paladin. I re-rolled a Monk in MOP, but then every chance I get I'm back on the Pally "completing" MOP content to keep him up to speed. Because of this, I'll likely bench my Monk in WOD since it's so similar to the Paladin.

Some Reps are easy to re-do. Others are a right pain in ass, and others are now impossible. Not to mention, things like the Pony Bridle for the Argent Squire are hard to let go of!

Honestly, can-o-worms here, but while I have zero intention to pay for a level 90 boost, I'd gladly pay to "merge" a few of my 90's into 1 character. Think of it as a paid class change, but you need to already have the class leveled.

But, think I've just resigned myself to sticking with the Paladin now and forever. Hopefully WOD brings some fun back into the class.

    -edit-

More Reps/Items that bug me than Achievements. Even though in Guild it shows character and not total points, I can live with that. My Monk has most of the MOP achievements around Questing/Exploring/General/Archy and I have zero intentions to re-do them on the Paladin. So in that regard, Account Wide achievements has made things easier, but not enough to leave my longest played character behind.

I like to put all I can into one character, I'm currently at 10,000+ achievment point and would like to get 15,000. Overall, yes I stick to my character because of stats.

for the sake of keeping its originality i am not even gender changing my hunter, let alone swapping mains. plus, this is the first toon my then girlfriend - now wife played.

she will always be my main.

Well, that and objects I have accumulated that make my life easier when I play. I still play other characters, but I have this odd feeling that my druid will remain my main for an indefinite period due to those items.

So i end up going back to my old char rather quickly.

    Thoughts?
Rep is part of it, and part of it is just irrational emotional attachment to the character.

Sorta. That, and I identify with him most, as well as finding him the most fun of my
    toons to play.

I wish at least non-expansion relevant reps were account wide. Like for the current expansion those reps would not be account wide but after the expansion is over they would become account wide. If they were worried about you getting bored that you couldn't grind reps on your alts or something. I would love if they were all account wide, but I think that's a fair compromise.

    I stick to it for
    - Achievements
    - Reputations(which is tied into rep achievements)
    - Character specific mount like the Cmode pheonix (against, tied to mount achieves)
    - Secondary proffs (Not as bad but, pain to level up all over again)

This. Rep should be account wide.

Nah, I simply decided a long time ago that warlock and death knight were going to be my two main classes, and they have been ever since. Achievements and things like that mean nothing to me.

ive mostly considered my Shaman a main, he was the first one i manage to get to end game with and the one i only did raids. however after mounts account wide, i dont feel compelled to level him once more. i did all previous expansions with him but now i want something new.

my warrior seems more fun and dandy then my shaman, even tho he is undergeared. but this time i will change and level another class if its my warrior, or my Priest, lock, pala, rogue.

Achievements. Reputation. Vanity items. Non-vanity items that are still useful, like rare drops. Transmog collection. Maxed professions. High priced bags. Legendaries. Hunter pets. Then of course my skill at my class rather than another class.

All of these contribute to me staying on my hunter main, it would just be a huge pain to change mains and I would lose so many items and things that mean something to me on my main.
