    Autozone!

I come here making this thread today because I am too lazy at this time to make a account on a car forums. So I hoping maybe theres some people with auto knowledge around here after all we all have life's outside of World of Warcraft.

So I own a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic: http://www.cars.com/jeep/cherokee/19...=USA90JES044C0 Don't mind the picture for that car its not the exact one I have but the specs are correct underneath.

I bought the car straight up from another person about 6 months back for a couple thousand dollars. It was in great condition for its age. Only thing I had worries about at the time was the mileage. It was around 230k when I got it. Now it is at 240k. Over the past few months I really haven't had too many issues with it. I have had to replace the headlights. I replaced a few fuses that were well over needed to be changed. I installed a new headlight switch. While I have a V6 Straight Engine and I have been told many times that it will hold up in my jeep for a long time my main question is this jeep really worth putting some more money into. It is still in good condition for its age. Mileage is high but body is still in great condition other than the back bumper with a dent in it that I put into it and I can get repaired and needing new headlight covers due to the fact the last person who changed them before me broke the head light covers off and now since I took them off they won't stay back on.

Now when I speak putting money into it I don't mean fixing anything really. I do know it has a lot of its factory parts still in it and I am wanting to drop a couple thousand dollars into it if it is worth it. I want to get a brand new Stero System with a CD player and all brand new speakers put in, I want to replace and put every and all new fuses into it. I want to get brand new tires put on with new rims, I need to get the electric check in it because I notice that every once in a while the right side of the cars powered windows won't go up or down without banging on the door a bit, I want to get any and all new parts put under the hood that I can. I basically want to replace everything I can in it with brand new parts that will match up with its years make and model. Which I know is going to cost a pretty penny but I don't want to put thousands of dollars into this vehicle if within a year or a couple years it is going to blow up on me no matter how much I change and replace into it.

Now I know the main thing people may ask me is why don't I just go buy a brand new car or another used car with all this money I want to drop into this? Well you see not only was this my very first car that I have owned my self but it has memories of my father who is deceased now. I really don't want to just go sell it and get another one even if I have the money too.

I've never heard of fuses needing replacing if they aren't blown but it shouldn't be too expensive if that's something you're concerned with.

There's nothing wrong with putting some money into a vehicle to keep it running and to add things you want to it. If nothing else the stereo can come back out if/when you sell it or it breaks down beyond repair.

I am not just talking about cosmetic things such as a stero system or tires. I would also like to go under the hood and replace some main lines/part in which that have been in there since it was made in 1999. I noticed while it is normal most of the parts under the hood are worn, rusted and just look crappy. While it still runs If I am going to keep this car for a longer time I want to make it look as new as possible which means Repaint job, fixing the bumper, going under the hood replacing hoses, fuses, large parts that are old, worn down and rusted. Suspension parts and so forth. I am not looking to put more than 3,000 dollars though in parts hopefully.

Basically if this thing is still going to be running a few years from now I want to make it into the condition of a historic car cause honestly if I remember correctly a historic car is classified under anything over 25 years old. Which this car would classify for that in another 9 years.

If it was to blow up on me in a couple years I wouldn't be able to get half my money back on the parts I put under the hood even if there supped up parts. For one I would have to get them all removed and then they would be worn no matter how high price and end tier they were they would be half the price or less.

I am mainly looking for any anwsers on how good or much longer my engine may estimated hold up with the mileage I have already on it?
If I was to replace a majority of the main parts under the hood would it extend its life and power?

I already put all premium oils into it, Premium Gas and Octane booster and gas treatments weekly/monthly.

Hard to say how long that engine will last without knowing how those 200k+ miles were driven and what type of routine/major maintenance or repairs have been done to it. I would say it's probably on its last leg without needing some major internal engine/transmission work down the road though.

That being said it's also possible that it could pretty much run forever. I had a 1994 Ford Escort station wagon that the odometer rolled over three times (300k miles) before it was given to a neighbor who continued to drive it to Mexico for a few more years so there's no telling how many miles it has on it by now if he's still driving it.

Well, there you go then. If you find it reasonable to you to put the money into it and you wouldn't want to part with it anyhow, then imo it's reasonable.

I've got a Wrangler, and personally I like the fact that there's catalogs out there full of replacement parts and junk for the various models. I imagine being a Jeep hopefully Cherokee enjoys the same convenience. I intend on keeping my Wrangler forever and just getting new pieces if/when necessary.

Edit: We've also got an old Jeep Comanche that used to be my grandfather's (bought in the '80s), largely kept for memories kind of reasons as well. Jeeps can last a good long time.
