    New HTPC build. Help needed!!

    Hi everyone,

I’m hoping you can help me out on a new home theater PC. I’ve built a few high end gaming rigs, but obviously those have focused more on performance than practicality. I know next to nothing about APUs at all (which is what I think this build should have), so here I am looking for help. Here’s what I’m looking for:

    Budget: $1000 USD
    Resolution: 1920x1080
Uses: 1080P movies, Netflix, TV, Internet Browsing, very light gaming, etc etc
    Country: USA
Parts that can be reused: Nope
Do you need an OS? Yes, Win 7. Do not want 8.1. I’m resistant to change damnit!! Now get off my lawn!!
Peripherals: Yes, but I’ll take care of most of them. Could use recommendation on high end speakers (read: theater quality)

    Here are the conditions:
    - Needs to be small and inconspicuous. This is going in my living room, so I don’t want something huge/flashy/white/blue/purple… I want a small, simple black case, but enough room to work with
    - Modular PSU (small case, don’t want a ton of wires)
    - Needs an SSD for quick start-up
    - Needs to be as silent as possible. I don’t want to be in the quiet, intense scene of the movie and hear a fan spool up
    - Internal TV tuner
    - Sound card

I don’t even want to start the build idea, because frankly I don’t even know if I should be going Intel or AMD, Integrated or discrete, etc etc.

    Thanks for your help everyone!!

On quietness part, the only source of noise would be CPU and PSU fans, the AMD build with PC in a suitcase comes in mind ^_^
If you want to assemble it yourself you are most likely looking at ITX build, but ITX Mobo's seem to have only one expansion slot, which is usually a PCI-E so you can't add a sound card :/
What about a USB sound card?

    Sound card something like this?

But with 500$ you save, you could go for a DAC
