C-section when my son was born. Was an emergency and not planned. They rushed me from ambulance into surgery. Strapped my arms down, put some needle in my spine with a medication that left me awake but paralyzed from the chest down. They put a sheet up so I couldn't see the operation. I was really scared. And my son was premature by almost 2 full months. The only thing I really recall was itching like crazy from the Morphine. I had staples and sutures, and it was very painful. I was sent home on oxycontin and felt like my insides would fall out every time I coughed or sneezed. The drugs and pain made the first few days very foggy, which sucked.

Was 16 when I had these horrible pains in the stomach area as well. My mum recognized them as gallbladder attacks and we went to the doctor. Doctor said I was too young, not fat and just the marks being blonde and female that came along with the list they have for people at risk. After alot of "mumnagging" they let me have a scan. I had my final exams and my parents told me the day I had finished up my last one. I was to be emitted pretty much the next day... even though I expected it, it was not fun. My entire gallbladder was filled with these really giant stones and they were surprised I "only" had 3 attacks. Though I wished they would have just crushed them instead of removing them midst puberty and hormones!

Needless to say they did surgery immediately lol. Not going to lie I was scared shitless at first, but it was kinda funny. As I was laying on the table waiting for my anesthesia, I was just thinking holy shit this is it! Then bam I was waking up again trashed off morphine.

My question for you people is, how many of you have had surgery, and what was your reaction when you found out you had to have it?

Fun fact that I didn't know. They still cauterize wounds lol. Well they closed me up with cauterization and super glue over it.
Gah, this was posted the 19th? So you had this done the 18th?? Totally with you on that one, I had a procedure done on the 18th as well! ;D

I had my first small surgery last September, and then this other related thing the other day. Scary! BUT I have to say I kind of enjoy the waking up part. LOL

This time around I was laying there, perfectly awake, then started thinking I MIGHT have been feeling a little fuzzy, so figured I'd just close my eyes and go with it. Was out prob a moment later.

Other than pain the last few days (finally got back on the computer today due to the location of said issue that's kept me off the computer) prob the worst part really was the damn IV. I've always been terrified of the idea of having an IV, though for my first one last year they numbed the spot on my arm first which helped a lot and made it less traumatizing. This time around they (different people and place) said they don't do that, so I got to find out that the IV was pretty much the worst part, that crap hurt. A lot. May as well have been a tetanus shot in the hand.

Will be having what should be the last surgery for this issue in a few months, I don't look forward to that damn IV again. Although the waking up part is amusing.

Edit: Where they talking to you before you went to sleep? Last thing I recall was the anesthesiologist talking about shopping on her computer while sitting at the Panera Bread restaurant. lol

First surgery was an appendectomy when I was little. I was born with a hernia, though, so I guess technically that was first.

I've had 4 major surgeries and 5 minor. There is nothing to it really.. as long as you follow any prep instructions. Seriously, on my last one (major) I ended up bleeding for 3 days after. Barely woke up through any of it.. almost looked like someone had murdered me in my sleep. On my third surgery (also major) I was in and out the same day and then I went and helped a friend plant a bunch of trees on his property.

For any surgery in the neck area though, make sure you support your head because it will start flopping around at the slightest jolt.

3 surgeries, all in the same knee for the same problem(s).
and yes, I did get a small addiction to the pain medication.
Almost lost my leg due to infection after the second surgery, went into shock rushed to hospital where they reopened me and cleaned things out.
Don't remember anything of that day, friends told me I raided earlier in the night though... how's that for commitment? :P

Had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago. Recovery was god awful, 2 days of just laying on my back awake. Even the slightest movement that made my abs flex was horrendous pain. Doctor said its far worse for people who are skinny compared to overweight people, which apparently have more problems with their gallbladder. Plus it makes your right shoulder hurt like a bitch.

When I was 16 I had to get a catheter ablation for my heart. They had to stick two catheters into arteries in my thighs and go all the way up through the veins to my heart and destroy the part of the heart that was causing the heart palpitations by burning or freezing it. For almost an entire week after my surgery I felt like I had two knives jabbed into my inner thighs. I didn't realize how much muscle strain gets put on that part of the body and how one little movement creates so much pain. Worst surgery I ever had.

Hmmm... first thing was getting all of my wisdom teeth out at once. But I hardly
    count that.

The one I actually count was when I broke my scaphiod during football. That was
no fun. Mostly because I didn't notice it was injured that bad. Just thought it was
a sprain. Eventually found out what it was, went to a specialist.
Got the surgery... they cut open the top side of the wrist, remove a piece of bone
and seal it back up with stitches. Then they cut open the other side of the wrist in
a slightly bent 'L'. Put a rod through the scaphoid, then the previously removed
piece of bone is put over it like a band aid. Then y'get more stitches and a wrap
with a cast about it. This lasts for a few months before you move on to just a
    brace and a wrap.
Took forever to heal. (First game I was back in I broke my ring finger, other
hand though thankfully. Just buddy-taped that one.)

Right after waking up, I asked for cinnamon animal crackers, purple Gatorade, and
to not see my family. Pain meds make me angry...
