Why does Russia want Ukraine? It is a big piece on my Risk board I give them that..but still really confused.

They want that part of Ukraine because it has access to water, and it gives them a buffer zone between Russia and Nato countries. At least that's my understanding.

Without Crimea Russia lose access to their black sea warm water port, in short, a political gamble to keep their access to their warm water port and Ukraine giving a buffer zone between Nato and them. Originally Posted by Jayburner

Why is this news? Because the things that we should talk about nobody want's to talk about them. Like health care, the economy, etc. Ukraine is a distraction blown up by the media, if anything it just shows the decline of American foreign policy around the world. The return of pre-WW1 world.
