Does the Battle.net region selection affect anything?

I'm in New Zealand which apparently has local servers now, yet my only region choices through Battle.net are 'Asia', 'Americas' and 'Europe'. Does it matter which region I pick?

It affects which region your game launches in and which servers it uses.

I play on American servers. If I change it to Europe none of my friends or charters will show up if I play in that region.

So, if NZ has local servers now, it would be best to play on NZ servers. You will also have less lag and it will be the server all of your info is stored on.

As for where is in the region selection, I have no idea.

In NZ, just choose the US servers and it will automatically pick the nearest server.

Great, thank you. I was confused because Oceanic players used to play on Asia from what I read.
