So I'm coming back after a year and I'm totally lost. I'm at 442 ilvl and I'm not sure how to gear up. I think my shammy is still in my sig, any tips would be appreciated. =]

Go to Timeless Isle, get full epics in about an hour or two. Then either hop in LFR or start raiding with your guild.

You sort of came back at a bad time. The expansion is basically over, everyone's capped and geared and spinning their wheels until WoD comes out. Good luck though.

If you just came back, as Ender said, go to Timeless Isle and get some gear, then try LFR. If you have a guild or know some people, then try flex and up, but I wouldn't worry about too much about gear. Just focus on trying to learn the class for when WoD is released.

In my opinion, grab the legendary quest first, go to the timeless isle and buy the 472 greens, and then do lfr for the quest items.

More specifically, Timeless Isle has a few key types of chests that you want to loot right away:

-Get the Burden of Eternity for your free 535 piece (token): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA-ITPt0pUQ

-There are some larger chests that are impossible to miss that are scattered around the island. These will certainly contain an armor token.

- After the above is done, travel around looking in the little nooks and crannies for these tiny little green chests. If you are lucky, you'll get more tokens and Burdens from that.

- Do the initial quests from the center area, you'll see the quest givers. That'll get you another Armor token. If you see a group of people fighting the world boss in the middle, jump in (no group needed) and cross your fingers for some loot there as well.

And that's how you go from ilvl 450 to 505 in a matter of an hour or so.
