Alright this isn't a tattoo hating thread, in fact I think some look great but many people that I talk too can't seem to grasp the fact that I don't want a tattoo just because I don't want one. To them it's a complete alien idea for someone to just not want one, they talk to me like I'm awkward for not wanting one.

Is this normal behavior?

I think (bit tired here) you mean the former. In that case, it's a bit strange, though I
sort of understand why. I for one can not truly understand how someone could find
watching someone trampoline professionally entertaining. But somewhere, there's
someone who only know that. To them it's alien otherwise. People will know what
they know, and oftentimes the rest of the world is just outside of their grasp.

I for one don't really want a tattoo, though I have nothing against those who have
them. (If they are in tasteful locals and of tasteful execution, mind.)

I think its fine, some people like them some people don't. It costs a lot of money and it is on you for a long time. To each their own I say if you want one get one, if you dont why shouldn't that be normal?

I do not think it is weird or unusual for a person not to want a tattoo. I don't want piercings, my wife doesn't want to wear makeup. *shrug* people are different.

o.O First time I've heard of that, have we really gotten to that point. Oddly tattoos used to be that thing you got to be different, and now that almost everyone and their mom has them...someone is weird for not wanting it?

Nah, I choose to be the new kind of rebel who doesn't care to bother getting one. Remaining a blank slate, never to be permanently defined.

My dad seems to think that because its still too recent from its major origins in prison (for America), that it'll still be awhile until its widely accepted in things like official business. As such, Im not allowed to get one and I will respect his wishes

I really imagine it comes down to your social circle. If your social group is full of people covered in tattoos and piercings who live alternative life styles, then it is likely weird in a small scale, but it is not something that I personally (as a heavily tattooed individual) have ever really seen.
Try telling people you have been celibate for 2 years and it is just a personal choice, not religious, that gets you penis protruding from your forehead stares.

I was being modest. C'mon! Nobody likes a showoff. At first I thought "maybe self deprecation and I'll make the punchline like "WH(A," but my self respect and ego came in and was like "naw dude, WHOOOOOA in size 7"...then sensible Tradewind busted in the door and was like "what are you cunts doing?" and convinced both my self-loathing and self-aggrandizing personalities to compromise.

So it's a tempered dick joke. I think that's pretty good!

You don't want a tattoo, and you know exactly why you don't want one. It is not up to you to help others make sense of your life decisions. Let them ask questions and speculate all they want; it should have no affect on your choice to not get inked.

I barely care about what I wear and decorating a house, both of which are easily changed depending on my mood. Why would I devote time, energy, and not a small amount of funds to create something permanent when literally nothing else I do in this life is remotely permanent? Loving art and loving you body have nothing to do with tattoos to me. Change has everything to do with them.

Well, at least now I get to see the other side's persuasion. I really couldn't understand this guy's friends at all until I read this. I'm not really upset with this poster, but it's just... weird. It seems like tattoos are like a form of liberation and general freedom and expression. That's cool and all, but all I see is serious bodily self-harm and permanence.

I can't really get over it completely, but I have become much more tolerant of people with tattoos over the years to a point.

In my opinion a tattoo is something that says look at me, you don't want none of this. If I see a person with a neck tattoo for instance I immediately size them up.
