Can't figure out on how to calibrate my new monitor

    Hey guys.

I just got a new monitor that is a 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the old 16:10 aspect ratio. I run at 1920x1080 resolution. The monitor is the ASUS VS238H-P.
The problem I have is that I feel like "something" is off about it. Like the colors or brightness or contrast or something. I just can't put my finger on it. Is there something I can do to get my monitor to look like how my old monitor used to look like? Or even just make the colors not seem like weird or whatever?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Possible you can get a side by side picture of the two monitor with the same image displayed.

Buy a screen calibrator? Probably not worth it unless you actually need a calibrated screen. I love my ColorMunki though. You have no idea how poorly calibrated default settings are.

Yeah I doubt most people wants to buy a $150-250 or $800+ device.
Not necessarily all monitors have poor default settings. Viewsonic and Dell have some pretty good default calibrations. Then you have Eizo Coloredge with a LUT and installed sensor. NEC P/PA monitors can will supply a sensor specific for their wide gamut lineup and default performance is also pretty good.
Like this is my monitor pre and post with Xrite.

Since it's in Japanese. tl;dr pre cal average dE is 7.79 post cal is .91
Calman gives different results but it is also very umm... messy?

Precalibration white point is a bit high. Software is easy to use but the reporting system is a bit odd as it won't show you the white point, gamma, and contrast with the report system but it would after the calibration. It doesn't like the LaCie program so I can't use that,
Fixing the white point actually helps a lot without going more indepth calibration and that doesn't really require software, just the monitor RGB control.

Did you already try using the Windows Display Calibration tool? Assuming a Windows OS of course.

It's far from perfect but is quick and free.

It's... a visual calibration that relies on the fact that the monitor has good color accuracy, which often isn't the case.
