The fact is, he could be spending his time more wisely, contributing to society, affecting other peoples lives in a positive manner, getting out and socializing. If he is 12, an adolescent, teenager, whatever, then great. Its still not a wise choice of how he spends his time.

He could do more good for himself just by simply being around people in real life than in a video game.
I learned the hard way a long time ago when mocking someone for having 50 characters (not all at level cap). We were discussing alts, and this person mentioned they play between 8 and 12 hours a day. I was being an ass at the time and asked if they'd ever even seen a naked girl other than free porn sites. The OP responded by linking their facebook page and their personal site which were linked together to raise money for his son's cancer research. He had a serious cancer stage by the time he was 12. The hospital had him in his own room, and provided him with wifi. His dad bought him a used laptop and installed WoW on it, playing with him every day since he could not get out and play with others.

Between his chemo treatments, and time spent puking, he said WoW calmed him and gave him access to people when the real world restricted him. He died in 2008, and even had a character and quest placed in his honor.

I learned humility the hard way. Now, I caution others and regret everyday being a dbag, and consciously try to show everyone an equal amount of respect.

Agreed. There are /played threads on this very forum with people who have over 1000 hours of playtime. If they enjoyed themselves, I say good for them.

I have to make assumptions based on the information he provided. Now if he said he did all this over the course of 8 years, playing an hour or 2 every other day, then that would change my outlook now wouldn't it? But based on what he provided I can only assume that this person wastes his time playing for hours on end every day and not contributing to society.

IF wow is something he enjoys thats fine. But to take it to an extreme like he clearly showed with 50 level 90s, then thats bad. Even licensed councilors will tell him that he should be spending his time doing other more productive things. Its not a secret that isolating yourself, or even playing with your "friends" or "online friends" will be more detrimental to your mental and physical health than if you get out and do things socially outside of a basement / playing computer games.

Always nice to see when someone has taken on that stance. <3. It's a lesson far more people need to learn but sadly, most of them don't. They go through life thinking they are the pinnacle of human perfection in every single way and that it is their job to force this onto every lesser human.

I would caution people against insulting players who have put what appears to be too much time in this game, I've met a few players who pretty much only have the use of their mind and hands to play this game.
For some it is a refuge in a life that has very little else to offer them, some of these individuals die far too early and I wouldn't want the last thing another human being to say to them is what a waste of life they are.

One example of how playing WoW allows a person to have access to people and socialize. That is the exception to the rule. Sure thats great that he being a cancer victim had the opportunity to be calmed and helped by playing a video game, but thats not the case for everyone in this world. Its surely the exception. The majority of gamers are otherwise capable beings who just choose to waste their time playing games. Sometimes excessively, which is what I am combating with my response. Is it okay to play games? Yes. Is it okay to play excessively? No. Even the WoW game tips on the loading screens says "remember to take everything in moderation, EVEN WOW!" They know themselves that playing too much is a bad thing, they even put a tip / warning on their own damn game.

No, you don't. I'd rather guess that you WANT to make them and you WANT to sit on your giraffe. But, maybe you have a need for it and maybe it brings you some sort of "productive" result that we can't see from our end.

I choose to not be that way, and that's really all there is to say since people rarely can be changed by strangers over the internet.

    I have 30 level 90's. multi-box x5 accounts = loads of 90's with little to no effort.

Create, leave rested, use next x5 until rested gone, switch to the next x5 rinse and repeat. Mind you alot were level 85 so was easy to continue to level through rested state dungeoning.

Been boxing since BC, easiest fastest way to have an army of alts, alchemists and whatever profs you want without the boring solo play and grind.

Cannot imagine how people actually do level alts 1 at a time, when I can level x5 in one go, with no real effort and keep it flowing if I want in a quarter of the time.

What is your goal with your 90's ? I presume you have an army of alchemists ???
This soo much multi box make everything much easier.

But level 50 chars on the same account is no easy task.

That thing people like to call "life" is overrated.

I just don't have the use for 50 90s. It's only for bragging, and I have not many people to brag to.

It was a hard lesson to learn. After attending the ingame memorial (which I had to make an alt for), I left the game for almost 6 months to get my perspective straight. I was foolish enough to act with mob mentality rather than thinking for myself. I was truly ashamed. I don't have kids, and really don't want any, but I would never wish anything like that on anyone, even adults. I am thankful for that young man. He showed me how lucky I am, and how life is whatever I make it.

Judging others should NEVER be an initial response, especially with extremely limited information. People make assumptions, and they are usually wrong. I hope before making more assumptions, Jaylock will learn to ask questions and formulate a complete assessment based on facts, and not just assumption.

Amen to that. Also, much love for your avatar ;p.

gzz for this..don't listen to the people who say otherwise...this game is out 10 years now and if someone goal is leveling is not that bad to aim for that. Most people spend incredibly amount of time just doing dailies/achievements/raid/dungeons which others chose to use on leveling. Some of them who blame you as no-lifer I bet they have more /played time than you.
The trick of selling a FFA-PvP MMO is creating the illusion among gankers that they are respectable fighters while protecting them from respectable fights, as their less skilled half would be massacred and quit instead of “HTFU” as they claim.

He is the one who openly created a thread for people to discuss how he spends his time! lol, you need to get off your high horse and get with reality. If hes going to post it on a public forum, then he better be willing to receive scrutiny and criticism for his actions, even if its not the type of criticism he would like to hear.
Yea, you really know nothing about me, and certainly not enough to make any sort of assumptions on my life ;P
But let me enlighten you anyway. I'm 23, I live on my own, I'm undergoing education 5 days a week 8-15. And I'm in a healthy relationship.
So, by your standards, how should I be spending my life exactly? Since you're clearly such a great judge of character and you know everything.

He could...but playing video games is just a lot more fun than everything you mentioned.

I am quite sure this thread wasn't made to make a review of another player, do not think the OP was thinking of this topic suddenly turning the discussion into what he originally wished to share. Please do not make assumptions upon what you think it may be, this thread seems more like a kind sharing and not a "Please review me thread".

So I would expect people to turn away from peeling at the user and actually either use the topic or not.

Unsure about the OP, but being called a "basement dweller" would be slight insulting if it was in my presence.
FOMO: "Fear Of Missing Out", also commonly known as people with a mental issue of managing time and activities, many expecting others to fit into their schedule so they don't miss out on things to come. If FOMO becomes a problem for you, do seek help, it can be a very unhealthy lifestyle..

For the vast majority, the /played don't exceed 3 days, and the select few characters i play range a lot higher (my two most played are well above 100), and i've been playing since vanilla if anyone was curious.

you've been here for years, i think you've been here longer than me. guess i'll find out in a second

but you're really expecting some orange text to stop people from calling this kid a nerd over his own achievement that he's proud of?

all i gotta say dude is if you're paying for a server transfer then you're doing it wrong lol. even as impressive as this achievement is, it obviously took some time to complete. Mists of Pandaria came out almost 2 years ago. In the time some of you spend idling in a capital city doing nothing or waiting on a queue, I don't have a hard time imagining that you might have quite a few more level 90 characters if leveling was what you spent your time doing.

But congratulations, maybe Blizzard will make you your own ingame item

Oh my god... and I thought I was bad with about 10 lifetime lvl 90s. Great job though, quite the accomplishment.

    Someone's blinded by nostalgia.

    1. Leveling was NEVER hard. It only took a long time because quests were spread though large chunks of the game, some spanning 5 zones on both continents.

    2. Pulling more than one mob didn't mean death for all classes. I was a hunter in Vanilla, I would pull packs of 2-3 mobs and just kite them.

    3. I assume OP had some sort of leveling path planned out after all those hours of leveling, one that is very efficient. I have 2 leveling paths, 1 for Horde and 1 for Alliance. I've hit 90 in 3 days on these routes, and that's with AFKing and not being as focused as I could have been.

This game has never been hard, most of us were just bad, so it seemed hard.
