What should I format my HDD as? MBR or GPT?

Hi I just brought a new Western Digital 3TB Green HDD and I went onto the Windows 8.1 Disk Management tool to create a partition but it came up with the Initialize Disk window asking for me to "Use the following partition style for the selected disks:".

It says MBR (Master Boot Record) or GPT (GUID Partition Table) and I know nothing about this at all. I was hoping if someone knew what to do and could help me out.

    Thank you for reading!

EDIT: The HDD will be for storage only!

Don't set it with a MBR as that may prevent your system from booting properly. The default settings in disk management will work just fine, just make sure it's set to NTFS.

MBR doesn't support addressing past 2TB, that said it would still work up to 2TB for storage purposes. I guess you want to use the whole 3TB so go GPT

Thanks for the info! I set it to GPT as indeed I want the whole 3TB on 1 partition. Thanks again
