Because his whiny nature is understandable given the exceptionally bizarre circumstances of his life. Not sure how I feel about his Rebuild version but I think that's more to do with Rebuild feeling more like TTGL 2.0 than the characters.

F/SN is absolutely terrible anime wise anyways. It's good you dropped it, keep it dropped.

It's so bad that ufotable (the guys who did Fate/Zero) is redoing Fate/Stay Night this year in a vein that follows Fate/Zero.
