    Warcraft Logs Feedback Thread

Hello all. This is Kihra, the creator of Warcraft Logs. I wanted to create a thread on the mmo-champion forums for the purpose of collecting feedback on WCL. I'm basically looking for suggestions on improvements you'd like to see. If there's anything that bugs you about the UI that you'd like to see improved, let me know. If there's anything you really like and don't want to see changed, let me know that too!

Basically you can use this thread to complain about bugs, make feature requests, and I'll read it regularly and respond.

    Thanks!

Kihra, Warcraft Logs is absolutely superb. The amount of information a lot of the graphs display is very good. I haven't found anything yet I honestly don't like.

I do have a question, though. How much development time has gone into the website? I guess to me it honestly looks like something that would take quite some time to create.

It *may* just be on my end, but the UI seemed a bit unresponsive sometimes, i.e. there's a lag time when accessing information or adding parameters etc.

My guild wanted to replace WoL with it, but the UI lag made us decide to just upload both. Seems like a pretty neat tool, but honestly the UI lag is extremely frustrating.

I like how it can tell the difference between normal and heroic siegecrafter

First off, great work. Love your site.

What you've done with pins/reg expressions has been great, but I'm not sure how to filter out unnecessary information. For example, suppose I want to find out whether a tank is using active mitigation on Rik'kal's Injection. That's all I want to see, if a paladin casts SotR and when Rik'kal casts Injection. I will select a panel, say Damage Taken, and then add separate pins for Injection and SotR. But when doing so my event log shows all of the incoming damage on the player under investigation. Whichever panel I select presents me with the information available for that panel, and I don't want all of that information. It's possible that I'm not using the engine correctly, which is why my opening sentence suggests that this may be a user error. If it isn't a user error, though, then I'd like an option to start from a blank slate for pins or to remove certain spells/abilities, e.g. on the Damage Taken panel be able to click ''x' next to an ability like Melee and remove it from parsing.

I'd also like an option to 'expand' lines of the combat log so you can see more than what's presented by default. The basic example for this is the death log. I click on a character's death and I get the preceding 3.2s, when it'd be helpful for that to be expanded to 5-10s; better yet, to give the user control over how far back you roll the log.

    Here you go

Takes a bit of getting used to coming from WoL after so long, but worth it!

I love Warcraft Logs. The only thing I've found deficient with it so far is that it doesn't have an expression builder that creates an expression to parse the log with the proper syntax. I see the input box if you happen to have an expression, but it would be helpful to have something that creates the exact expression for people unfamiliar with the syntax of it.

Ah I got it, swapping Decorator to Filter. Thanks a lot.

Amend my post then to only include the 2nd part :P

Awesome tool! Keep up the good work.

The devs over at WoL seem unwilling to fix or update and purge fake or cheesed logs and with the expansion coming up, I'm sure WCL will overtake WoL as the preferred standard for log analyzation. Hope you guys can handle the increased traffic.

Am I blind or can't I see a way to link my "personal log" calendar? Having the opportunity to link all of my recorded personal logs with a single link would be superb addition.
Cause: http://www.warcraftlogs.com/guilds/personal/ kinda doesn't reference your specific logs

Also one other thing/feature which I cannot seem to find (or am I blind) is the "general" total log of a certain raid night, not just per encounter. Would like to have that as well

But overall the combat-replay is amazing tool to play around with, can handle the lag, like the general design specially it is easier imho to check people's skills usage and whatnot then it was in WoL.

When searching rankings the ability to filter by realm would be helpful.
Also getting Epeen to support Warcraft Logs would mean a lot of guilds would switch.

  13. #13
Do you intend to add support for russian (cyrillic) letters in Pins? Because it doesn't seem to work atm (simply trying to make Pin with filter by ability name shows nothing): http://goo.gl/m9DMJI
    Same problem with Expression Pins.
FYI worldoflogs expression editor can parse cyrillic.

As petty as it is, this would be a major sticking point for me. If you got support for raidbots the switch would be a no brainer.

I would like to see how I rank against others on the same server.

Two functions WoL has that WCL doesn't that I'm missing:
Raids by character - an overview over which days/raids a character was in on atleast 1 boss in a log (good to check attendance if needed, on possible applicants mostly, but hey).
Death log of people on-graph (basicly, currently, you click on when people died - good. You hoover over them, you see the name of the person who died - good. However, you can't bring up a death log like you can on WoL - bad). I'm not sure if you can do it another way, though.

    EDIT:
Oh yea, if at all possible, could you set up some kind of partnership with the guy who made Epeenbots and Raidbots and work on a solution to copy data from WCL like it does WoL? Raidbots is extremely good for quick overviews and comparisons against other guilds, and epeenbots for showing consistency of potential trials :<.

I believe UI lag issues should mostly be resolved. This will eventually settle down once the number of people using the site stabilizes. Right now the traffic keeps growing, and so I keep upgrading the hardware as it grows (but I don't do that every single week obviously).

This is on my feature list of things to add, i.e., the ability to go back further with the death log. I'm mulling over the best UI for it.

The main reason I did not add this is that the Query Pin builder pretty much serves the same purpose, i.e., it is nearly as powerful as the expression editor and has GUI for connecting with AND/OR, etc. A UI for building Expressions would probably just end up looking pretty similar to the Query Pin builder UI that already exists.

You are not blind. I do plan to add support for linking your personal logs to other people. I had originally thought people would want to use their personal logs as an unlisted scratch space, but I underestimated just how much people would want to use them like "real guilds."

As a workaround right now you can link one of your personal logs to someone, and then they can use the "Recent Reports" dropdown to look at all your other personal logs. So they can still be browsed that way.

Right now there is no way to view a full report. This is something people ask for, and I will probably add it, but I am somewhat skeptical as to how useful it is (other than as an e-peen "Oh look I was top for the whole night" measurement). For analysis, there's nothing to be gained from looking at a full report of trash and different boss fights. That said, since people keep asking for it, I'll probably put it in.

For filtering by realm, what is it you want to see? The top 200 for a realm? Or are you wanting the original rankings to be preserved but just hide ones not from your realm, so e.g., would you see 1,2,3,4...200 or 8,42,96,142, etc.

I plan to just implement Epeen bot myself. The character ranking pages already show a character's historical performance. The only thing missing is how good that rank was at the time you did it.

Ah, that's just a bug. I will look into it. Thanks for letting me know.

I plan to add this. It's basically the last WOL page that I haven't done yet.

Are you just wanting the last 3 hits when you hover over the Death lines on the graph? If so, that is planned. I also plan to add a Deaths column to the damage/healing views, and hovering over that column will show you that player's deaths as lines on the graph along with the last three hits and times of each death. Clicking it will take you to the Deaths pane where you can view that character's deaths in detail. That should largely address your concerns I think.

I am implementing Raidbots functionality myself. I have all the data. It's just a matter of writing the UI for presenting it. (That's why I haven't deleted any reports since the site launched.)

If we could see Min and Max values, it would be fairly neat.
    (Say max hit : X , min hit : Y)

Basicly, the same function as WoL - take this page as an example:
    http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/r...?s=1669&e=2069

Wooka dies, I hoover over it, the 3 lines of last hits pop up as you are talking about.
If I right click it, I then get the options to zoom in, zoom out, or set the page to selection, AND to view the death log of the specific person, giving this (extensive) information of the last 15 seconds or so:
