Clancy Brown and Travis Fimmel were already confirmed to be the leads weren't they? Meaning Lothar and Durotan. Seeing as Clancy Brown is the spitting image of Lothar, that leaves Fimmel to play Durotan.
To be honest I'm more than a bit put off by WoD's planned story. Having a plot about time travel and alternate universes just opens up the Warcraft lore to all sorts of dumb shit in the future.
Clancy Brown is clearly Lothar, can't what other role he could play when he represents all that Anduin Lothar was.
that kind of sucks if he is durotar. hes such a fantastic actor id like him to be around a bit longer

they pulled a time travel story out of their butts so we could hang out with the majority of the cast of the movie in the place and time of the movie.
you dont need to wear a tin foil hat to put two and two together.

it was originally meant to come out in 2015 which would put it only near the end of warlords of draenor, if they do manage to make yearly expansions.
hang out with durotan all expansion fight the warlords, put up with gul'dans schemes then when the expansions over be like "hey you wanna see what originally happened? go see the movie"
then next expansion turalyon and alleria show up and they can again be like "hey wanna see why these guys are so cool? go see the sequel movie!"

The movie has only been pushed forwards 3 months, from December 2015 to March 2016. Either way, WoD will be over by the time the film is out. And the events are so contradictory to one another for new comers that I'd argue it would actually be a bad move to market the two together. It's just a coincidence. The movie has been in the works for a decade and it only makes sense to start from the beginning.
Those franchises (SW, Marvel) were born in an era when things were done differently. Games (with their own type of appeal) either didn't exist or were seen as toys. Warcraft is a franchise born through videogames, a media which didn't really become mainstream until the 21st century.
Harry Potter and Lord of Rings are just as self-sustained as SW & Marvel, and a game release followed every movie release. It's proven - watching the movie "reminds" you to try out the game, which makes that game profitable almost regardless of it's quality. It's especially powerful when aimed at a younger audience that doesn't necessarily draw a conscious distinction between movies and games. Ever wonder why movie-licensed games are so shitty yet continue to be produced?
You seem to believe interference is part of the whole deal - it isn't, that's what marketing coordination and team assignment is for, it's just part of the modern iteration process. Although Blizzard is known for it's entensive polish/QA phases, the reality is that the marketing aspect of any product is much further up on the ladder. I will be very, very surprised if the movie isn't reserved for the end of WoD's lifespan, and served a while before patch 7.0 hits. The stories don't need to be connected, as WoW allows the player to visit the whole game world - the only thing being different is the timeline.
Thus there is no "dead" period for the franchise - it stays active, exposed and newsworthy. Hearthstone will also serve that purpose, in a sense. Keep in mind, all of this is from a common denominator/majority perspective.

My point wasn't addressing when they were targetting the release, whether to hit a deadzone in WoW or not. It was directly replying to the idea that the next expansion is going to be Movie related. WoW's story functions much on its own, and will continue to do so regardless of what other medium the franchise spans off into. As I've said in example, the comics went on to talk about Medan, who still hasn't appeared in the game yet is considered canon. We've seen Broll and Valeera as cameos at the beginning of Wrath. But they're not going to create an entire expansion to tie in the Warcraft movies. I'm sure there will be coinciding elements for sure (Durotan in WoD and the movie, Turalyon/Alleria in potential sequels and future expansion) but they're going to be mostly independant ventures, self sustaining in their own right.
If the movie tanks and we don't see sequels, Turalyon and Alleria would return regardless, and would have their back story explained to us in the context of that expansion. The exact same way WoD's Durotan will be different from Movie Durotan. They share are core identities but they will grow into different characters in their own respect.
The filming might be done soon, but remember that they need to cut it, put the CGI together, and maybe re-take some scenes.
