It's on FOX, so it'll last half a season and get cancelled.

Sad but True. It will be replaced by a special season of American Idol.

    epic.

defo gonna watch it. i'm usually not a big fan of detective series, but since this is a fictive universe it will be nice to see how the legendary criminals came to be.
This is a signature, there are many like it, but this one is mine.

Between this, Doctor Who, Sherlock, The Flash, and Arrow I have a pretty good set up for television starting to form!

I am not a big fan of the Batman universe but this looks really interesting. Will give this one a try for sure.

Always liked pre-origin story stories like this- I can't wait.
*crosses fingers that it will be both good, and long lived*

Batman is Batman, so I'll probably give it a watch, although I wonder how interesting pre-Batman Gotham can be.

What's Ryan from the OC doing in Gotham?

Seriously though, looks pretty decent, I'll give it the old "Three Episode" test.

Can't help but feel like their trying to milk the current superhero hype, like ABC's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D'.

But it does look really good and I'll more than likely check it out. I don't read the comics, but I've always enjoyed the character of Commission Gordan. So it'll be nice to learn more about his background, as well as the beginnings of some of Gotham's most infamous villains.

So is the following the origin stories of a bunch of characters on a episode by episode basis or only following Gordon?

I think it's going to be following Gordon for the most part since it had "detective" in the following shots.

I lost faith in humanity after watching the trailer

Looked like a bit of both. Seems Gordon is the main focus, but villains in their pre-villain forms will appear on it. I wonder if it will be just cameos, or if they will be recurring characters.

the only way this will be good is if they either

A: make up or use a bunch of new/nonbatman related people so that they can still have successes without making batman seem pointless while also building up all the people who are going to make the real crazy shit happen

    B: diverge from continuity heavily

C: have time skips to where by the 2nd or 3rd season its batman time

"so what do we do?" "well jack, you stand there and say 'gee rocket raccoon I'm so glad you brought that Unfeasibly large cannon with you..' and i go like this BRAKKA BRAKKA BRAKKA" - Rocket Raccoon

By necessity these kinds of stories wind up implying that everyone in the main fiction met when they were 5. Which is silly.

Coming from someone who's not a fan of comics nor do I read any:
I enjoyed Fantastic Four movies, Batman 2k movies, Arrow (TV) and Superman Returns tremendously.
On the other hand, last year's Superman, Avengers and the other recent Marvel movies, I found unappealing, over the top, cheesy and unrealistic. Yes, I know it's not supposed to be "real", but you know what I mean.. The fact that they continue in their idiocracy is not anyone's fault but the ones' who bought tickets to see the movies. And I highly doubt they're all "comic book/novel fans"; these movies are just targeted towards a broader audience.
Therein lies the issue, these series, movies and spinoffs aren't always going to be good, they're just aimed to capitalize on their other products' success.
I tried watching the first MARVEL episode when it first appeared, but I found it unbelievably boring and unattractive, and it's the first time I hear about this Gotham new series also. I saw the trailer, and just as I expected, "Ryan Atwood" was not the best choice for such a strong character like James Gordon. Hard for anyone to fill Gary Oldman's shoes anyway.
It's good that DC is making another presence though.

Hmm not sure, I like Batman mainly because of Batman, even if it has different great main characters. Not sure how far this show will go, but I rather have a Batman tv show where Bruce JUST begins being batman, the preparation, the mental instability etc. Not a Batman Begins drawn out over 13 episodes, but a more real version where Bruce struggles betwene his need of vengeance and justice, where Batman isn't the meta-human yet.
