How many Old Gods are there in Azeroth?

I dont really know much about lore but Ive always wanted to know how many Old Gods are there in Azeroth. I do know they were all imprisoned by the Titans though but Im curious to how many Old Gods were there when the Titans fought them and why does it seem like they are meaner than Sargeras. You can correct me if Im wrong but then again I dont really know much about lore so yeah Ive got alot to learn still.

There were 5 old gods imprisoned beneath the surface of Azeroth by the titans. When the titans first came to Azeroth the old gods ruled the planet. Fighting with each other with their faceless and elemental minions. The old gods were connected with the planet on such a level that killing them would destroy the planet, so the titans improsoned them. C'Thun feigned death and was sealed in a titan research station near Uldum. Yogg-Saron was imprisoned in Ulduar. Y'Shaarj was killed by the Pantheon, although his heart was preserved and later resurrected, but destroyed during the Siege of Orgrimmar. The Titans defeated N'Zoth, whose exact location is unknown but believed to be beneath the maelstrom. He is the most dangerous, having influenced both Deathwing and the emerald nightmare. He's also rumored to be the one that changed Azshara and the highborn into the naga. The fifth old god is unknown and though there are rumors (like the evil beneath tirisfal glades) we don't know anything about him though.

The old gods are pure evil and care only about themselves and their plans. They delight in creating chaos and destruction which they have certainly been doing for a long time. I wouldn't say that they are meaner than Sargeras though. He wants to destroy all of creation, including the old gods. The old gods just want to 'mess around' really.

Just a note, Blizzard has said that the Titans never defeated N'Zoth. Other than that, everything Cradzy said is correct.

As for exact numbers, there are at least 4, maybe 5 on Azeroth. There are, however, possibly countless more throughout the cosmos.

Tier gear should be available during the leveling process. I don't want to have to mingle with these eltitist jerks in LFR to get gear as it is. I pay a sub fee, I shouldn't have to do LFR to get raid gear, much less Flex or Normal.

This. It was originally thought five, then someone said seven, now there could be
others, etc. So we may never really know. (But I think there's at least 6.)

    There's something under Tirisfall Glades, it drove the first High Elf settlers mad;
we don't know what it is, but Blizz has said (I'm pretty sure they did,) that it's not
    an Old God.

Yeah they did, but we know how unpredictible is blizzard when is about lore, maybe they retcon that and say that there is one there.

They said that they weren't sure what it was, it's just something that they have set up so they can use it for content later.
Deathknight's do it using disease, blood and the power of the unholy. Warlocks do it with dark demons by their side. Mages do it with summoned arcane powers. Druids do it using the forces of nature. Rogues do it through stealth, poison's, shadows and....from behind. Paladins do it by calling to the light for aid. Shamans do it with the help of the elements. Priests do it through the holy light.
    But warriors....
    Warriors just fucking do it.

Heh, yeah. I just really hope that it's not some old god, but rather some other big bad
thing that's unrelated to anything else. That'd be nice for a change.

My theory is that it'll wind up being a corrupted Titan well of power - the Eastern Kingdom's version of Un'Goro or Sholazar. But polluted somehow.

That... could actually be both cool and make sense. It'd explain the mushroom circle
    and fae dragons actions there...

The Titans didn't defeat N'Zoth, he just went into hiding.

N'zoth is still lurking. The Titans couldn't defeat it... maybe someday we'll get our chance? Don't expect to hear anything about him in Pandaria, though! (Source)

I've considered that before, too... maybe Azeroth is just one big old god. Or the original old god got all chopped up into distinct entities in the Sundering.

I don't think the 5 old gods thing is canon. It's just outdated speculation (counted that giant faceless one in Darkshore as an OG). The Tirisfal thing is specifically not an old god, and only had an effect on elves. I like the "corrupted Sholozar/Un'Goro" idea, never heard that one before. Maybe it's where the trolls originally naturally evolved then wandered away. Maybe they fucked it up with some o' dat voodoo they do. We all know how reckless trolls can be. Anyway, the elves evolved from trolls, and they just said "screw this place" and kept on trucking to what became Quel'Thalas, which as we all know is ancestral troll land. Then the humans set up shop in Tirisfal.

Still doesn't bring in the Guardian of Tirisfal thing... why Tirisfal? It's a curious title. Who knows.
