Bubblegum Crisis Ultimate Edition Blu-Ray Set

The Bubblegum Crisis Ultimate Edition is an experiment in "crowdproduction". This custom limited-edition set is available by preorder only, and is expected to ship in August 2014.

This set is not only for the fans, it's by the fans as well! 50% of the funds raised (after fundraising expenses) go directly into the production budget, and the backers of the project get to decide how the budget is allocated. The initial fundraising via a KickStarter campaign raised over $150,000, and already the backers have made a significant budget decision, voting overwhelmingly to expand the set from 2 to 3 BD50 Blu-Ray discs, to permit a higher bitrate (better video quality) and space for extra content.

Backers are already deeply involved in the project, developing an archive of Omake (extra bonus materials), and organizing teams to add extra subtitle tracks (in addition to the English and French subtitles that are already available). The project is being coordinated on the AnimEigo CrowdProduction Forums.

The Ultimate Edition is available in two flavors: Basic and Premium. Premium backers pay an additional $50, but half of that goes into a special Premium Production Budget that they alone decide how to allocate. They may choose to add special bonuses just for themselves, or altruistically improve the set for everyone -- or some combination of the two. Update: the results of the voting can be found here.
