We have BBC here, if we want to watch the British version.

Which I generally prefer. When I saw they were bringing back (Americanizing) The Tomorrow People, a show I loved as a kid, I just cringed. Especially on a network as jacked up as 'The CW'...

Both versions of the Office sucked in my view.

I don't see American or UK shows as being innately superior to each other. I know plenty of folks generally jump onto either the "tweed-wearing beta male hero" fan group or the people who think every single piece of British humor is superior to every single instance of American humor and as a result end up thinking British TV is vastly superior to American.

Some American shows are very good. Some British shows are very good. And some from both are shit.

In that case, both have merit. Not like many others that were glaringly cringeworthy.

I'm a fan of British Comedies and have watched a handful of other British shows as well, but I still prefer the US version of Being Human. Can't say I've seen the others.

I think the US version did a better job analogizing the vampire, werewolf, and ghost experiences with addiction (Aidan), mental illness (Josh), and social anxiety disorders (Sally). And I enjoyed the atmosphere in the American version as well. I did like Russell Tovey's George, particular the scene where he begins changing in the school, but the other two roles I feel were weaker than their American counter-parts, especially Annie. I really didn't like her at all.

I'd wager there are more Canadians in American TV than Brits.

Making it American makes it better. We have "uplifted" their entertainment.

Still waiting for a Shaun of the Dead remake with Channing Tatum.

Why does America remake British shows rather than air the original?

To minimize risk and maxi-mate profit.

1)Use a tested concept that prove popular
2)Change things to minimize the risk that the viewers will get scaring away by foreign culture jokes or different world view etc

No, he'll be CG, played by Andy Serkis. And it'll be a trilogy, where the outbreak is caused by the government trying to weaponize zombies.

Because talk shows are a huge deal in the US, like the most watched programs there are. Stuff like Ross or Norton in the UK isn't
a fraction of the same importance.

They do it to cater to a different audience, period. I think some original British shows do it better, but sometimes the American version has better actors. One version is usually mellow/standard and the other is often over the top, applies to both nationalities.

Besides that there may be different dialect involved and inside jokes.
    Stay salty my friends.

For the same reason almost all porn parodies are "MOVIE! a XXX parody!" instead of something eyecatching and interesting.

Because it's easier and cheaper that way.
