Dominos keep falling - 2 more states' same-sex marriage bans knocked down

On Friday, Arkansas' ban got knocked down. And on Tuesday, Idaho's went down.

I believe that makes 27 states where it is now legal.

I wonder if the SCOTUS is just hoping the states will do this on their own so that they don't have to weigh in.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

You know that's what they're doing. It's why they punted before.

It's a bit more complicated than that as some of the rulings have stays and some of them are in appeal.

There are really two things going on at a macro level:

    1) A huge amount of pressure being put on the SCOTUS to issue a sweeping ruling on this issue. They skirted past it with the narrow Prop 8/DOMA rulings but with this sort of backlog of federal appeals heading their way they will no longer be able to dodge it.

    2) An interesting aspect that isn't being discussed is that the Arkansas ruling (I believe) was done by a state judge where the others were all done by federal judges. That could put an interesting spin on this whole thing.

Either way it's blatantly obvious that it's just a matter of time before it's federally law to allow same sex marriage. It's unfortunate that the so-called "fiscal conservatives" will waste huge amounts of taxpayer dollars fighting the inevitable.

They can't -- it's federal judges making the rulings (with one exception). The appeals will go to the SCOTUS.

AFAICT, 12 states have legalized legislatively and the bans have been knocked down in court in 15 states.

Good job US, you'll catch up to Canada soon enough! While I don't agree with the notion of homosexuality, I'm glad that more people have the freedom to make their own choice to do so now.

Yes, and they can just deny certiorari and let the ruling(s) stand.

I guess I still view the SCOTUS refusing to hear the appeals and letting the lower court rulings stand as still making a decision, even if a more silent one.

Plus I don't think they will do that. Not when there are this many cases built up.

Territorial speaking yes, not so by numbers.
The Horde has a hold of the empty servers, the Alliance the ones with high population.

Example.. to the left, California: 38 mio.
    In the middle.... .
    From South to North:
the mix state Oklahoma 3.8 mio., Kansas 2.9 mio, Nebraska 1.9 mio, South Dakota 840k, North Dakota 700k,

The quicker we get this over with and approve it across all states, the quicker it stops becoming a rallying point for the Democrats. Let's get it done America!

Thread's been up for around 45 min and not a single negative post so far. Progress all around!

They are, partly so they can put the "States rights" folks in their place. States rights will not save you from society moving forward to become more free.

I still wonder why people say things like "I don't agree with homosexuality"... it's kinda like not agreeing with blue eyes when you have brown eyes.

Nothing to be agreed upon, and you're not being asked to switch sides

That's kinda the thing that sucks about politics. It's a rallying cry of the people, who's support is what gives democrats the ability to rally around the issue. It's the whole buying votes of your opponent versus the demands of the constituents.

I'm surprised Oregon had a ban to begin with.
