Moonkin & AMR

Is AskMrRobot a reliable tool for Moonkin gemming/reforging? Specifically at lower gear levels (533).

I've heard mixed feelings regarding the use of AMR, and I haven't used it on any character I have previously raided on (rogue, prot paladin, hunter).

Right now, I'm just gemmed for all crit (int/crit gems in red sockets, and meeting first haste cap since I can't reach the second), but when I was messing around on AMR, it suggests expertise/crit gems for my red sockets and to not reforge into so much spirit.

It's fine, you need to know what caps are best for you though.

Like Glurp said, it's fine, but it has its disadvantages. You have to know if you want to go for the 10289 haste cap, it won't recommend anything for you (not intelligently, anyway). I'm not quite sure how good its base stat weights are either, as it's told me to get int+spirit, taking int+spirit leg enchant over the int+crit one etc. It can be quite useful is you use it correctly, though.

Unless you can maintain at least 11000 crit rating then don't go for the second haste breakpoint. Once you can maintain your crit rating and get the second haste breakpoint go for it. You can set this all up on AMR.

With my current gear, I can't reforge/gem enough to reach the second haste break point. I'm at the first haste bp (~5273), 10,659 crit, and 7,400 mastery using the recommended gems and reforging from AskMrRobot. I put my armory in my original post, but here it is again.

It seems people always suggest a different crit value to stick with when it comes to the second haste breakpoint.
I've heard as low as 5k and that 11k that was suggested is the highest I've heard thus far.

Taking the second haste breakpoint would look something like this:

That would leave you with 8.7k crit, which in my opinion should be fine and only get better with more gear.

I noticed that your belt is quite awful, being 496 with only a single secondary stat. I would try to get at least a 496 belt with 2 secondary stats, since it would get you some extra stats to play with. If you can afford it, the leatherworking belt would be a very nice upgrade. With it you'd get 9.6k crit with the second haste breakpoint.

Gemming expertise lets you trade intellect for twice as much of the secondary stats you would otherwise have to geforge into spirit, or of those you can reforge spirit into. Typically at higher gear levels secondary stats are more powerful than intellect, since they amplify an already high intellect level by a fixed percentage, and avoiding intellect gemming can then be a good choice.
