Why do movies always have a happy ending?

But seriously, I would really like to see more movies with not-so-happy endings... it's so cheesy that everything always works out fine - that is not the case in real life.

Most of the people that bite the dust during the series were arguably not even remotely good people.

While true, most of the cops, excludeing the corrupted cop they were just doing thier job. And got owned in the process. Also, the grand majority of people in those movies that were captured, were ehh, moraly grey, but not murderers (Not all). By far the end of the 5th one (I think?), still impacted me. The one were the cop gets fucking crushed by those Iron walls at the end.

That's kinda the point. The majority of movie going audiences go to movies to ESCAPE from the misery and unhappiness of real life, they don't wanna see unhappy endings cause they can just turn on the news for that. I'm not saying I oppose unhappy endings, but there's a very big reason you don't see more of them, cause MOST of the audience doesn't want them.
