Which class has the strongest AoE spell?

Howdy,

I'm looking for the class/spec of the highest damaging AoE ability per 30 sec that DOES NOT require a target to cast (so no howling blast please ) It could be PBAoE, GTAoE, cone spell or any other type.

Some spells for example:
Hurricane, Arcane Explosion, Hellfire, Bloodboil, Death and Decay, Flamestrike, Earthquake or even damaging hunter traps / shaman totems.

Which one does the most damage for 1 target for 30 sec at the same itemlevel (say 496)?

Demonology's probably been my favourite in terms of area of effect. Destruction's also fun with Fire and Brimstone, too. They're also pretty strong.

I don't know if it is the best, but Fan of Knives as Assassination is pretty strong.

blade storm on warrior. pop recklessness,skull banner,avatar, beserker rage, orc racial first(warriors should only be orc). When blade storm is over thunderclap and keep up sweeping strikes. You will top dps meters in aoe and I also out dps fury warriors on single target fights as arms.

Theoretically Fire Nova from enha shammy can be the best if there are enough targets and all of them have flame shock on them.

10? Probably Demonology warlock.

For sustained Aoe Dps not requireing a target has to be demo locks, just hellfire and go to town.

Not been true for a long while. Demo's AE is stacked up into in cooldowns (double Felstorm with GrimServ, Mannoroth's Fury, Dark Soul) and requires having a full pool of Demonic Fury which means we do phenominal damage for 10 seconds, but fade very very quickly. Destruction can sustain AoE at strong levels indefinitely, I think only Elemental Shaman can outperform it, but it is limited to fewer targets. Warriors are strong too, but also limited by cooldowns.

WW Monks will rek meters in sustained AoE. Nothing will beat them because RJW is OP.

If we talk sustained AoE I would say WW Monk or Warlock... Now in other hand, burst AOE locks.

Spinning Crane Kick is technically more DPS on its own than Rushing Jade Wind, but you'll do more DPS using RJW during AoE because it's not channeled.
