Recently had a problem with Time Warner that they refused to fix, so now I am looking for a different service for internet. I would love to have Google Fiber but that seems out of the question for most. I was planning on making a switch to Verizon Fios, Unfortunately it isn't coming to where I'm living until later this year. Anyone have any recommendations for a certain service, any help would be welcome. Thanks!

Bro. Bro. I'm there with you so hard. Not in upstate New York, but I'm sick of TWC's bullshit. I swear to god, just yesterday I was about to break my phone because ABC Watch or whatever phone app didn't work with Time Warner Cable. And TNT phone app doesn't either. I'm in upstate NY. We got wired for Verizon FIOS about 4-5 years ago. I did have one rocky month about a year ago where the connection would periodically drop at certain times in the evening, and I had to reset my modem to fix it. Other than that it's been really solid and lag free. With TWC we'd lose Internet for 10-15 minutes at a time, probably 3-5 times a week on average. Connection speed was pretty good, though not as fast as FIOS.
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of other options out there around here. Pretty much everything else will be slower than Time Warner. I can't vouch for whether other options might have fewer issues, though.

Try looking at DSLreports (despite the name, they index all kinds of providers) and see who offers what where you are.

Then you must be in an area that still has competition. Don't worry, they're working on that. Where I am, it's Comcast or nothing. Basic internet, TV (limited channels) and phone is running me ~250$ a month. And they sell my phone number so I get barraged by telemarketers. Most everywhere in America is in "not-monopoly". There is almost always ONE ISP you have access too and they know it.
