Dont have emo carebear feelings about getting someone fired. You made $100 bucks and burned someone really good. I say, keep at it -- if you get everyone else fired, next promotion will almost certainly be yours due to the lack of better prospects.
Just make sure your superiors think you are doing it for the company.
Not for getting caught, but for doing it..
The guy deserve to be fired. If he gets mad at you, he's a piece of shit, he cannot blame you for his own fault, but sadly that's a hard concept for most people, it's easier to point your finger at other people instead of yourself. Sew him if he does something bad to you..
snitch someone so you will take money its....... o well a snitch and definitely there is no good price for a snitch as you said you helped someone to get fired so you will earn the enormous price of 100$ im sure you will have a luxury life with those money
tho i have to say that it sound a bit weird that someone got fired for a soda actually in my ears sound impossible are you sure say all the story or that you dont look for attention here ?
also for the ppl that say dont feel bad you did the right thing if the story is true the key word is here 1st of all he didn't snitch him cause he did something that he shouldn't but for the money and 2nd he doesn't feel bad cause he snitch him but cause the reward was too small

"does it all the time" and "still in probabtionary period" doesn't really match. Either way, this seems silly. Right up there with "do you steal pens from your place of employment".
Agree with Hollafame, hiring is very expensive in terms of resources compared to say stealing soda, or pens, or minor stuff. Has to be excessive. There also has to be more to the story.
either way, no I wouldn't have reported someone for stealing soda.

You certainly should never feel bad about doing the right thing, and make no mistake, you did do the right thing. I may have advised him first about it, but the guy seemed like an ass anyways
I'm surprised they weren't allowed to grab drinks whenever, at least i was when in retail; Within reason that is.
That being said, if your boss wanted this taken more seriously and your co-worker knew, then you did do the right thing.
I personally wouldn't of reported them, just due to how pitiful the "Offense" is.

If you are going to do something that is not allowed... dont get caught by anyone.
He aint replying, cause he is proof reading his next story.
I'm gonna let 'em know that Dolemite is back on the scene! I'm gonna let 'em know that Dolemite is my name, and fuckin' up motherfuckers is my game!
You sir, after reviewing a lot of your post history have one of the most interesting lives that anyone could have and should consider having someone write your autobiography "The Life and times of Nakura Chambers" By Walter Mitty.
You are a snitch end of story ...ratting on someone who is taking soda ...what are you 5
Stealing soda is petty as fuck.
Years ago when I worked at KFC, the extra stock that didn't go in the fridge would be put in a giant container that was in the cold-room. EVERYONE took a can/bottle/1.25L bottle all the time from there.
What you did was right but I don't agree with it.

I once worked with a co-worker who was fired because they stole (if you can call it that) 50 cents from the cash till because no one had any change on them that night and they were short for bus money. There was no manager in that night, so they left a note explaining the problem and said they would "repay" the 50 cents the next time they worked. The manager didn't seem to like it and they were let go. Theft was theft in their eyes. How do you feel about that?
So many people protecting the thief, weird shit.
Sounds like a retail scenario, where the orientation videos tell you flat out that taking sodas or anything you might consider "minor" is no different from someone walking out with a computer inside a microwave box (actually happened at a store I worked at). They'll even tell you that standing by the time clock for a couple minutes before clocking out at your scheduled time is tantamount to stealing company money.
How much soda did he take? Was it a can/bottle or was it from a machine? I've worked in the food industry for several years and have never encountered a place that restricts their employees for getting soda. I'm sure there are some places that crack down on that type of stuff, but for the most part its not a big deal. Soda is VERY cheap, especially if its from a machine, and most places simply don't care if their employees have a few cups throughout the day. If he was stealing entire boxes of soda that would be another story altogether.
I would not say that you are in the wrong for reporting him, but it seems to me that it was a rather minor thing that you reported him for. If it were something bigger - such as stealing prime rib, serving food that was dropped or dirtied, or snatching other server's tips - then sure, but grabbing a cup of soda? I dunno man...
Reporting him on moral grounds is fine; it was against your employers rules.
Reporting him for $100 is a dick move though. I'm actually kind of appalled that your company pays out a physical reward for something like that. I've worked places were it's asked to report on theft but never where people get paid out to screw over co-workers.
In summation, your co-worker was morally wrong for stealing soda but you were also morally wrong for literally selling him out. Your moral obligation was to confront him about it, which you say you did, but then you reported him strictly for self gain. Obviously you weren't too troubled about him stealing, you just wanted money. Pretty much just a dick move on your part.
