Does Pornography have a negative effect on society?

    Something I've been thinking about.

I have an opinion. I dislike pornography, and I feel it can give men and women an unhealthy view of relationships.

This article shares my opinion, and uses some generalization and other tacticts that I know the MMO-champ forum posters just love.

    http://www.dcclothesline.com/2014/05...ate-goal-life/

Talks about that Elliot kid and how his manifesto doesn't seem to ever talk about loving any woman, just wanting to score with them.

Anyways, wanted to see what you amazing folks have to say about the matter.

    ----Edit----

    New article I found:

It has negative effects if you believe it is just like real life, same as believing all you see on TV or in games.

Since when porn has anything to do with relationships?

I think rom-coms have more of a negative impact on relationships than porn.

Since people learned to smear mud on walls, there has been pornography. Society seems to have managed despite this.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

I'd be more worried about obese people than those that watch pornography. Sure obese people might not go on rampages and kill people, but it's still not good to kill yourself, which countless millions are doing at this very second.

It has a negative effect on people who don't like pornography. It causes the severe feels.

    Anyone else can deal.

My love of treating women like objects instead of people came before my love of pornography.

Define major, because to me, I really don't see any overwhelming consequences to watching porn multiple times a week.

Yes, as do games, movies, and music. All media is evil.

I think it can have some negative effects, sure. At the same time I think it has many positive effects. Sure there are other ways to masturbate but pornography is inarguably the best method today. Masturbation has positive effects on mental health, for both sexes. Like Rich said if you have someone who cannot separate reality from fantasy then sure it's a bad thing. But then for that individual a lot of things become bad.

right now there are placards for promoting the life ball in vienna, where you see a naked women and a transgender woman... people are against showing the transgender one because they can´t explain it to their little kids...

there´s the problem, uneducated parents unwilling to explain something anormal to their children

if you teach your children that pornography is as made up as science fiction movies, it´s not a problem, you of course have to take the time and actually talk to your children

Without porn you would have to make the bald man cry by using your imagination, sod that.

In all seriousness as long as its used moderation its healthy, bashing ones bishop helps relieve stress just try not to copy what you see.

The consumption of pornography has led to a curious view of it, on one hand people are now more open to things that were previously hidden away unless you were part of a kink community; And has demonstrably shown it decreases aggression and sexual assault in the reduction of both sexual crimes and assaults, but dependent on the porn in question it's also shown increased markers for unhealthy opinions to regard of women.

Example being, extreme porn where the women is shown to be hurt.

Then there's the question of the actors and actresses, whilst women are paid the most in the industry they also face the worst treatment until they receive brand recognition or are signed; As opposed to men, whom whilst paid paltry sums in comparison, are objectively treated much better.

I myself prefer amateur and female friendly pornography.

Elliot is an outlier, a young man with severe mental health issues and a culture which ridicules virginity and also emphasizes on scoring; That in turn led to an entitlement attitude manifesting within him, and sadly led to him using such claims as justification for his attack.

I've met such people. And 5 minutes on Twitter on a hashtag of something like Kimye or something will definitely make you want to throw a dictionary and a book at them.

Even though I have been a consumer of pornography, I have no illusions about it -- it's pretty awful in terms of the kinds of things it normalizes and conditions in terms of sexual preferences/fetishes and expectations. The human mind is one that seeks and follows exemplars for perceived success/superiority. How many things do people do that they might not ordinarily have any interest in doing, but figure are how sex is supposed to go because it's what they've been exposed to? I could give some pretty common porn-trope examples, but this is somewhat, sorta, vaguely, a family forum, ish. Use your imagination of things that happen frequently in pornography that you have wondered "when did that get fun?", i.e. many of which probably require a paper towel.

I think it may have had more to do with him being a rich "Give-me-it-all" entitled little shit. How dare those women not want to hop in the sack with the guy? Turn him down? I swear, having lived around some posh towns in South Florida I sadly see people like this all the time; their money makes them better than anyone else so when they get turned down for anything or by anyone it hurts them so much more. Either have to hope they get humbled somehow, or they do what they do down here and run their Porshe into a lightpost, hopefully only killing themselves- that way they don't hurt anyone else down the line.

OT: Yeah it can have a negative effect, but so can too much bible study.

100% truth. People expect too much butterflies in the stomach feel good bullshit out of relationships these days. It's gotten to the point that I can't even bother to date any more because most women just begin a campaign of passive aggressive subterfuge as soon as the initial endorphine high wears off.

I'm just waiting for the day prostitution is legalized and people stop bullshitting about what they want.

Obviously it was the porn he watched, not his underlying mental health issues.

Wait, wheres the evidence he even watched all this horrible awful porn? NSA can you help us out?

Snuff porn probably does. The other stuff? Not so much.
