It's been a while since I heard anything about it, mainly because I no longer live there, but if memory serves correctly Jefferson state would have the lowest population of all states, one of (if not the) lowest population density and it would basically contribute/export nothing at all. Every couple of years though they seem to get all up in arms and decide that this year is the year they finally break away from California and become something quite unfeasible.
Jefferson "state" though is nothing new, a lot of people who live up there already consider themselves to be part of the state. (It's like a Renaissance Faire where everyone is in character and pretending to live in a fantasy world, only they actually believe it). They've been doing this since forever ago. Odd place though, lot of mystic healing rock shops, hot springs with 'magical' properties, full fledged wide spread superstition that mount Shasta is an alien base of sort. The proposed capital, Yreka... never seen so many children in one place that looked, how you say, inbred?
I'm probably being too harsh. Nice place to visit though.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.
Just, be kind.
I went to San Jose State University and graduated with a degree in Business - Marketing. Not the most useful degree for finding a job, but I did learn a lot of stuff that is now very applicable to my job today, cost estimation for a seismic exploration company (oil and gas).
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
