I saw in 1.8 new blocks were added. Granite, and a couple other I don't remember the names. The server I play on was just upgraded to 1.9 from 1.7. Are these blocks in? I can't craft them like it says on the wiki.

You mean from 1.7.7 to 1.7.9 right?
The changes you're talking about are for 1.8.x
