Every time I start chrome I get these 2 popups from Avast...
Based on some googling I've determined that it's related to the "browserprotect" malware... and it's trying to reinstall itself on chrome (hence the CRX_INSTALL folder).
Unfortunately I can't figure out what keeps creating those files or how to get rid of it... I've tried running full scans with both Avast and Malwarebytes on safemode and they find nothing at all...
Any ideas?

Check your task manager and see if BrowserProtect.exe is running. If it is, go to your programs and see if you can uninstall it there. You can also check your Appdata>Roaming folder to see if there are traces of it there.
There are also probably some registry keys and other things that may not be removed, you can easily just google "browserprotect chrome remove" or something similar and find out where all of those would be.
