Can't get AHCI drivers to install.

Okay so, I bought myself a Samsung 840 EVO 250gb a while back and I installed it without any trouble. I noticed the faster speeds right away but I heard that to get the full benefit from an SSD you should have AHCI enabled. Okay. I go to my bios and I enable it and it booted fine but I didn't notice any change. I use AS SSD and it tells me that I still have IDE drivers running so I try to reinstall windows this time with AHCI enabled before installation. It installs fine but again, it's running IDE drivers instead of AHCI. I go to my motherboard site and I see that there's a set of preinstall drivers. I put them on an external USB stick and try to load them while installing windows. It tells me that they're the incorrect ones which leaves me dumbfounded. Another weird thing is that windows boots perfectly fine with AHCI enabled in the bios which I heard it shouldn't if the drivers weren't installed.

At this point I think I've tried everything to get AHCI installed with no luck. Any suggestions?

    Have you tried this?:

Basically a registry change, usually needed when cloning from HDD to SSD.

Ya that's the first thing I tried. It booted fine but still IDE according to AS SSD. I also tried change the different ones such is Isavtor or w/e. One thing I didn't mention is that I used to have a regular HDD for a while before getting the SSD. I unplugged it first before installing the SSD as some people recommend that.

Hmm did you plug the HDD back after installing the OS on the SSD? Does the HDD still have the OS on it? That maybe one cause. If that's the case, unplug the HDD and try booting with AHCI, just to rule this out. Another thing that may be causing this, do you have any SATA drives (optical drive, etc..) connected to the SATA controllers? If so, did you connect them to the same controller as the SSD? You should have your SSD connected to one of the SATA3 controllers (you have two), any other SATA drive should be connected to one of the SATA2 controllers (you have 4). If your HDD is SATA 3.0Gb then also connect that to a SATA2 controller.

No the other HDD doesn't have an OS on it as I formated it and I use it for my Steam folder. I do have an optical drive but it's plugged into the blue slots which according to the manual are SATA2. My SSD is plugged into the top white one which is SATA3 and my second HDD is plugged into the second SATA3 slot. Would that be the cause? Having the HDD connected to a SATA3 slot?

It shouldn't be the cause, no. Especially if your HDD is 6.0Gb, in which case you'd want to have it in your second SATA3 slot. Do you know if it's 3.0Gb or 6.0? Cuz if it's 3.0 there's no point in having it in a SATA3 controller. Either way, it's a fast one to rule this out so you can look for other causes so try unplugging it n see. Good luck if this doesn't work out

Let me guess you didn't install Intel Rapid Storage driver. (specifically SetupRST.exe)
