If nobody is getting hurt it should be legal, which would mean that animated child porn (i.e. victim-less "crime") should be legal - I don't have to like it, but this feels like a case where personal freedom is being infringed upon just because somebody think it's disgusting.

Where a lot of characters can be interpreted as looking like children.
Thus people who are not used to the drawing styles would be screaming pedophile on people who have an interest in it.

Is this where I start crying about strawmans?

I don't hear any mention of it being banned? Rather, western reporters being appalled by this shit and wants to see it banned. Should just stay as it is. It's fine.

I wonder if this covers 3D child "loli" porn as well?

You enforce it the best you can. If I was asked what to do about it I would say that you ban the commercial sale of drawn child porn. If somebody wants to draw out their fantasy on paper and privately trade it that is fine. Not much you can do about it anyway.

I'm on the "don't fucking care" side of this fence. Personally, I'm annoyed that it's illegal here in the USA. I'm also annoyed this is even a discussion.

Trying to isolate social issues down to a single finite cause or point is not only ignorant it's simply stupid. While Japan has had an increase of sexual crimes they've also been experiencing a plummeting birthing rate. Meanwhile, Loli and Shota have existed since 19always.

I would seriously advise anyone who feels the need to "weigh" in on this to jaunt over and read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_in_Japan#1980s

So some of you people want people thrown in jail for images of fake drawn people?

Please show me on the argument where the straw is.

In order for something to be illegal you have to be willing to sanction violence in order to enforce it in extreme cases of non compliance. There is no way to guarantee the enforcement of a legal penalty without ultimately backing it up by physical violence.

If I kick my neighbors dog, I could be issued a summons... But I could just ignore it. The police could knock on my door and ask me nicely to surrender myself. They can threaten to physically subdue me and take me to court and I could call their bluff. And then I get off scot free in your little theocratic morality=legality fantasy world right?

My only concern with this type of thing is that it could normalize in the minds of the people who watch it, that things like this are ok outside of a mastabatory fetish on your computer.

I'm not saying it could lead to the acceptance (in the mind of the twisted individual) of children as sexual objects, but I'd be curious to see a study done on that. Societal effects can be huge, and japan's facination with all things young is a bit disturbing (though, as your population gets as old as theirs is, and there is a lack of youth, maybe that's where this culture is popping up from, once again, just a theory, probably wrong).

Bit of a misleading poll, 3D animated childporn is just as legal as 2D animated childporn. The article speaks about a ban concerning possession of childporn depicting real human children.

I only meant it in jest. You know, the typical back and forth MMO-C bickering. "Strawman! Slippery Slope!"

Making something illegal doesn't necessarily mean you want to throw people in jail, just to prevent it from being advertised, sold or advocated.

doesn't Japan have more pressing issues then what perverts cuddle with? oh wait, they would rather not even mention those things to begin with.

The article whines and focuses on the horror of that ban not applying to animation. So the poll is perfectly relevant.
