Questing about level 50 (Unspoiled) gathering

I've recently been looking at the unspoiled mining nodes, and quite few are at 0% for me, despite having dropped a bit of cash on HQ miner gears. I'm at 334 gathering and 331 perception.

As far as I can tell, I have all the best crafted gear available to me, apart from 1 ring which is the miner achievement ring (The crafted one, raptorskin ring, gives GP, so I didn't feel the need to buy a 2nd just yet. Same with my belt, which is a normal, not HQ, boarskin survival belt.)

I was reading that to get the "2 star" nodes, you're expected to get the Mor Dhona hat and off hand. For this you need HQ umbral rocks. According to the log its a 1 star unspoiled node. I get there today and...0%. I'm a little bit dumbfounded, as I seem to have the best gear available to me (Albeit unmelded), and yet there seems no other source of gear I could work towards to get the skill I need (370 apparently! so far away from my 334...)
I've tried googling for a guide to help me...but I guess I don't know the right terms to find any guides, if any exist.

Is lack of materia really the missing link for me? Or is there some other step I can take? (ALso, are there any end game gathering guide people could link me too?)

Sad to say it is exactly that, you need over melded gear along with the best gathering food, sec let me find the link for you

You won't be able to gather the new stuff without them as they have an insanely high gathering stat, also the hat and main hand requires HQ so don't ignore perception either, happy gathering!

You don't need overmelded gear, putting gatherer's guerdon and guile III in the default slots should get you the bare minimum.

Bare minimum yes but exactly that, still will need to use all your GP to increase chance to gather which could of been used on HQ
