It seems you hop guilds quite quickly.

    1. For the love of god: DO RESEARCH on your guild you think on joining. Just checking their progress is not enough. It saves BOTH parties concerned a lot of time that you take effort in this.
    2. having people that are less skilled always happens. Think about it. You can't all be equally skilled. So you'll always find someone or multiple people who are "beneath" you in skill. The question you must ask: is that acceptable to me? Is this guild progressing fast enough to my liking? If you just want to complete all content before nerfs or even before the new content is released, ask yourself if that guild could potentially give you that result.

If some players have been in the guild for years and are in your opinion lesser skilled then you or others, try and find out what makes them so special that they are still there. Like another player said: players who are in a guild for years are reliable. As a former GM of a 175/350-ranked guild during Cata I would rather have someone who is slightly (notice the slightly) lesser skilled then some uber guy who shows up whenever he feels like. Or who would suddenly quit at the worst possible time. I had a warlock in my guild who I had in my guild for years and years. Almost since the guild was founded (7 year old guild). Overtime it was quite obvious that he wasn't one of the uber players. But he did not stand in fire and kept his special stuff up so the rest could do more dps. He never did top 5. He was usually 13/18th. But the dps difference wasn't THAT great ofcourse with the top 3. So should I get rid of this person who could always be relied on? Or should I kick him in order to get a player to might not be that loyal to my guild? Who might do a few % more dps? Who might also end up standing in fire or not. I would not be sure. So I would always choose this warlock over anyone. That said, I had no ambition to be top 3. But even they might agree with me here. If you looked at the dps meter I am talking about, it wasn't a triangle shape. It was more like a rectangle with an edge.

Tell the guild leader your reasons in private. The guild isn't meeting your requirements so you are looking for a new guild that will.

If you announce the true reasons on your guilds forum or in guild chat it will just cause drama so for the rest of the guild i'd just say you've decided to move on and say goodbye. If anyone whispers asking what happened just tell them you want to progress through content a bit faster but leave out the part about certain people being the cause of the slow progress.

State your case in a proper manner, take your hat and leave on good terms. It's a guild, it's not like you married them or something. If they are worth shedding a tear then they won't act up over it. If not it wasn't worth much to begin with.
Your rights as a consumer begin and end at the point where you choose not to consume, and not where you yourself influence the consumed goods.

Translation: if you don't like a game don't play it.

Just talk to an officer and inform them that the guild's goals aren't meshing up with yours. There is really nothing else to explain.
You're getting exactly what you deserve.

If you're Norwegian, say it is your socialistic right to share their goods.
If you add me on Steam, Skype or whatever program/client I share my info for, please write something to identify you in the "Dude/gal wants to join your club"-message. Just so I know that an actual human is on the other end :P

No matter how you handle it they will think you are a douche. All you can do is tell them their progression is where you want it to be and you are going to a new guild. You've only been there for 3 months, they won't miss you. No need to beat yourself up trying to figure out how to handle it.
If what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Then I should be a god by now.

Talk to the officer/GM and explain the reason you are leaving. Preferably do it polite and honestly answer all the questions they might ask. If they start acting inadequate then just leave, there is nothing left in your power to make it right then.

It all depends on officers/GM. Some people are impossible to stay in good terms with after leaving, some take it calmly and will appreciate your feedback. You just need to make sure you dont do anything stupid yourself.

"I appreciate raiding with you guys, but I'm looking for a somewhat different experience. I'll continue helping for a couple of weeks, if you need time to fill my position."

And if they need you for those two weeks, don't boggart loot. Remember, they're still trying to progress and you snagging needed loot after you've already given up on them will leave a sour taste in their mouth.

To all my friends in [Insert Guild Here] and to those I didn't have the pleasure of hanging out with,
I have finally come to the decision to leave the guild. Whilst my decision wasn't taken hastily or lightly, it's one I've thought on for quite a while, and in search for a more suitably fitting guild, I must love you and leave you all. I will always remember the times I've had in [Insert Guild Here], the friends I've made and the laughs I've had. If any of you still would like to keep in contact, my RealID is [Insert Fake RealID Here].

Good luck with progress and good luck in the future,

    [Insert Your Name Here]

It's unlikely you'll stay friends with any/many people from the guild though.

In our guild, if you don't want to be put on a perpetual "door meets <bottom>" list, you do need to leave gracefully.

During trial (one month or so), stating to an officer that you don't think that the you are a good cultural fit for the guild.

At anytime, stating to an officer that your real life schedule is changing and you can no longer raid with us but would like to find a guild where you can raid with them.

Any other reason given to an officer, with enough notice to not cancel raids, where you convince the officer that you aren't just a selfish loot <hog>, egomaniac, etc.

Leaving in the night, without telling an officer, after raiding the guild bank, etc. will get your name on a list kept in the officer forums.

Key point: you need to talk diplomatically to the guild leader, raid leader, or an officer.

See the situation from your guildmasters perspective. What would YOU want if someone who was part of your team decided to leave? That gives you a pretty good idea of how to handle the situation. Then there are also unseen complications that can come of it in case the guild is less understanding.

I was part of a guild last year that had good progression in ToT minding the age of patch 5.2 on our server. My advice was valued, since I was the most experienced player on the team and I had the most heroic raiding experience in there. Things were good to start with, but after a while problems seemed to erupt when one of the members got moody for no reason and lashed out on people in the guild to feel better and another high ranked person in the guild had problems with me since I question things and this guy didn't like to be questioned. Since I was going back to university after summer and would have less time available to play I decided to leave.

I planned it ahead. I struck a deal in my head, I would leave the guild after that week's lockout so they had 7 days to get a replacement for me so the other 9 people could continue raiding as per usual. I thought that was generous in my mind, spending a whole raid lockout on people I could care less for. The guildmaster did not agree.

He tried all sorts of reverse psycology tactics and tried to guilt me into staying, but my mind was made up. He didn't want me to be around if I was planning on leaving, despite that the guild would be unable to get a raid going without me. Fine by me, and I wished them well and said that I hoped our paths would cross again under better circumstances, to which I was spat in the eye and told that deserters are never welcome back. Funny, since one of the regulars were known for joining other guilds and comming back every once in a while.

After that the guild had people stalk me, whispering me that I should kill myself etc. and harassing me any oppertunity they got. It didn't stop untill I got all of the attackers banned.

Sometimes, no matter how fair and just you try to be when leaving a guild it just won't work out well.

Tell them that you have decided to join a more stable and progression oriented guild to raid with in WoD.
That your goals is to raid more then your current guild does or something along those lines.

Or if you know some1 rly well in the guild u applied then say you want to raid with an irlm8 or similar

If your current progress is limtied by something like bad attendance or common dc's (wich is very common during summer months in most nonhardcore guilds), this is a completly okay reason to want to move up the ladder aswell.
Every1 understans some1 that want to leave a guild with slacking raidmembers.

whatever you do, dont say you leave because you think some1 is bad or that the other guild is better!
and ofc tell them where you are going, and that you hope "we can stay in touch and mby pug with alts together or something".

Tell the GM / RL / Officers how you feel in PRIVATE conversations then put a general Fare Thee Well post on the guild forums obviously leaving out any name calling / performance quibbles etc.

Just like how you get into the guild, the appropriate way to handle it is as you would a job.

People apply to guilds / jobs, and when people leave jobs that they don't want to screw over they give them a customary 2 weeks notice so as to not leave them in a shitty position and give them time to figure out how they'll fill your spot and explain why they're leaving to the management. If the management then decides you can leave immediately and they no longer need you to fill said spot you can just leave then.

Please attempt to never be that immature guy again.

I say you straight Lebron it and tell them honestly what you think and end with "I'm taking my talents down to south beach, ... (insert character name here) out."

Also you should add its just a game and you are trying to enjoy it and staying with them would make it less enjoyable and that you are a competitive player and feel you would see more content else where.
