What to eat to gain back weight after sickness and injury?

So I was sick and injured for about 3 months and lost 10lbs. Not a lot but seems hard to get back. No idea what to do since I haven't had the appetite but tomorrow and this weekend I plan to just eat a lot. Here are some things I've pilled up to help me hopefully put on some pounds.

    Donuts
    Chilli
    Pizza
    Chicken wings
    Ice cream
    Muffins
    Bagels

I'll still stick to my usual plan, but I really want to get my weight back up asap so I thought I'd carb load and bloat myself up lol. Any other suggestions or ideas?

I find that a peanut butter sammich with lunch and one with dinner are very helpful.
Glad you're getting better, good luck!

That is a horrible way to get weight back...All your going to do is gain fat.....Eat healthy food high in carbs with exercise is best.....Beefy food like Steak, eggs, loads of potatoes, rice, nuts. Eat about 5 times a day, medium meals with a shake or two...Basically what weightlifters do when there looking to bulk and put on mass.

Don't forget though, usually when you are sick you also lose a lot of muscle weight. That is because you are in bed all day or sitting down. Just eating a lot of sugar and fat is not gonna get that back. This might increase you weight, but it will mostly be fat. I'd suggest (if you are up for it ofcourse) to do some sprinting (just for leg muscles) and weight exercise while eating a lot of carbs to regain the weight. You can eat some fatty stuff next to it ofcourse to get that back, but I wouldn't only rely on that.

    Just my 5 cent

Eat something you really like, the more you like the more you eat, personally i recommend Japanese curry, delicious, cleap, easy to make and you can put anything in your fridge in it.

Most of being sick is fixed, as it were, by rehydrating. Water and/or some moderate amount of Gatorade (or water + vitamin supplements) would be a better start than just plowing into a t-bone + eggs. Granted, I like the taste of t-bone + eggs more than vitamins + water, but we're supposed to be talking about recovery from illness - not getting stuffed to avoid immediate intoxication from alcohol here.

Hydration is key. Drink water. When you're done drinking water, pour another glass. Pickle juice also replaces electrolytes like a PRO but most people find it utterly disgusting.

I don't know why everyone's harping against chili. I guess it depends on the recipe of course.

Rice is a very consistent way to gain weight. I was hospitalized a few years back and I ate a fair amount of rice (bulk) and yogurt (digestion) during that time. I was unhealthily skinny after getting out of the hospital so I wouldn't suggest eating a lot of rice to most people, but it certainly works if you NEED to put on weight. Be careful though, I gained back 25 - 30 pounds quickly (admittedly I have a very large NFL sized frame AND I easily lost that much when I was sick). Most people should not be gaining that much.

Hello friends, do any of you health and fitness connoisseurs know about BCAA (branch chain amino acids)? They are the building blocks of protein and are used to support muscle growth, similar to protein powders. Diet Standards is offering a free bottle of BCAA supplements in veggie capsules to anyone who is willing to write a review for the product on Amazon.

10lbs is nothing. Alot of that is probably just muscles letting go of some stored up glucose (and the water it binds). Never bulk up on crap food, eat normal food and veggies just larger portions. Whole milk is (3,5%) is 34g protein and ~600kcal liter and is always a good option. Otherwise just add some more oil on a side sallad or ontop of whatever you're having.

Don't eat pointless carbs, eat some nice stuffs like steak.

That said, eat what you feel like, if you need an excuse to eat donuts, go for it. Your feelings of wellbeing do matter.

I always have a ridiculous craving for a double whopper from Burger King after I get over being very sick. I don't know why, and it's never anything else. I just specifically want that damn burger... After that, I feel a million times better and just go back to my normal eating habits.

If you're trying to gain weight, don't carb load... protein ftw.

Mate.. It doens't matter what you eat, when you want to gain you go " Calories + ". You should have more, MUCH more, carbs than protein. ". Love, just love people that know absolutely nothing about nutrition.

A certain amount of protein is needed, however only to build, the rest of the job and the energy needed that way should come from carbs due to easier and much more lasting.

OP ; Pepperoni Pizza, that's the way. Bulk on it, some piece of meat, and you should hit absolutely everything included protein, carbs and fat. However, if it's a healthy or non healthy diet absolutely depends on your stomach and how you feel... Going "Natty" with fruits, vegetables, lean meat and nuts is just a "preference". Costs around 3-5x more and absolutely does nothing more, unless you get a upset stomach and absolutely care about vitamins. You're going to be much healthier, however it wont change the fact that, calories in > calories out. As long as you eat more than you burn you gain, it doesn't magically make the natty food make you gain more muscle and less fatt.

Carb if you're trying to gain weight. Don't listen to the "Protein". Carbs>Protein>Fat, always for bulking. Cutting? That's a whole other thing, then you might have your protein higher or at same level as carbs and then add some carido. Else, never go protein>carbs. What good is protein with no carbs? The protein ain't going to give the energy to last for a day with workout.

well eat an excess of what you listed and you'll have the 10 pounds back as fat in 2 weeks, then spend 2 months dropping it again.

Be smart and eat lean, 10 pounds of fat will do you nothing.

Don't eat stuff to gain fat D: Just eat healthy in the same portions as before you got sick and your weight will stabilize. There is absolutely no point gaining 10lbs in pure fat.

    hydrate is the first step.
