Do you support places like kickstarter and indiegogo?

Just looking for peoples opinions on how they feel about funding through places like kickstarter and indiegogo. I understand the place for games, music, true art! But now I"m finding absolutely ridiculous things like some fat chick asking for money to lose weight on it, don't you think it's gone a little bit too far?!?

    Check this crap out
    https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/h...t--7/x/8111933

    Tell me that isn't wrong!

Honest opinion? Does this kind of thing REALLY belong on a fundraising website???

It doesn't IMO, it should be for creation, for art and to further the human species, not to help someone stop eating cake. Shit pisses me off.

    Depends on what it is.
Example: after 12 years a Homeless youth program in SF had to close down cause, literally gentrification fucked up their ability to pay for their space.
They decided to kickstart a fund so they could keep doing outreach via vans in their community.
to me, this is a valid thing to fund, fuck the weird tech shit, and games and shit. We are drowning in fucking games.. lol

Stuff is really all centered around how you sell what you want funded so, w/e if you can convince someone to help your lazy ass, why not?

Haha, she blames her ankle. Okay.

It's a decent place for, as you mentioned, games, art, music, etc. Some people try to abuse it, obviously.

Well the thing is what you mention actually sounds like a decent project, trying to help a community is a noble goal...but this kind of crap is just... I dunno, maybe it's just hard to see it without being in the person's shoes, but it seems utterly ridiculous!~

Its a good thing really. Idiots will be idiots no matter what it is. Just like that women. Sometimes people will buy into it, most of the time they wont. For example, a guy on kickstarter has raised 45k just to friggin make a potato salad.

Over all, its good and helps. There will always be those morons like the potato salad guy or this fat chick who think they can honestly get money "just cause". Sometimes it works, sometimes it wont. An idiot is soon parted with their money.

OH no, this kind of crap is ridiculous. But it will happen no matter what. There are idiots out there who think the first thing that comes to mind is a good idea.

Lots of stupid in there, but there's lots of good too. Overall I believe it is a good thing, it's
just a matter of being smart with one's own money.

    For instance,
    This was awesome: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...fiction-museum
    This is stupid: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...?ref=discovery

I mean, people can do whatever they wish with their money, if they want to donate it to an entitled overweight women; Go for it, if they want to support a crowd sourced game go for it, if they want to watch me jerk it on a HD cam, go for it!

I do not really get into the reasoning with most of it. So many seem all risk/loss with no return

Well I did get some pretty good rewards from kickstarter before, so rewards can definitely be had. Not sure how I feel about a piece of this chicks jeans though lol

why not? if people represent themselves honestly, then it is up for the donors to decide. so a guy did one to make potato salad for $12, that is kinda funny. People thought it was funny too, so they donated $50k.

Maybe you have a point, at least the chick is honest about it. Maybe I"m the problem, after all what is humanity if it can't help each other.

You think the guy who has raised over 45k for potato salad is a moron?

I don't think you understand what a joke is.

I think it's a great thing. The only problem is that some people will get scammed, but can be prevented by not being stupid. The only downside is sometimes for games specifically the company will be unable to complete the game and all the backers are SOL, but if you donate the money with the understanding that while you are increasing the success of whatever goal being achieved, it is still possible that certain circumstances will occur and it may never see the light of day.

No, I think some of the stuff up there are really good ideas/products/whatever that people would/could use and deserve the support.

Other things, like this fat woman, are just idiotic. I get that she was injured and couldn't run or exercise and all that crap, but please, she got that way by stuffing her face while she was sitting around injured. She doesn't need a professional, she needs a dose of reality, not another sip of sangria.

When it's something trukly indi or made without hidden goal (like the potato salad. It wasn't made for making money, the retarded buzz came from the mass media relaying the news. But sure you'll see hundreds of tryhard after that)

I'm only against shit like "hey help us being billionaire by creating something with your money then selling it to facebook"

It's all about the honesty of the project. Even if it's not always easy to find what's hide behind.

I support it wholeheartedly. I paid a decent amount to help fund Mighty No. 9

So long as they follow through on what they're giving people, all's good. People can do freely with their money what they wish as far as I'm concerned.

Are there better things they could do with the money? Yes, sure. But do I have the authority to dictate that? No, nor should anyone else.

The potato salad is actually amusing to me because it was a joke and the guy didn't expect that reaction. Now he's in a mad dash to fulfill all the backer rewards he has to get together.

    ugh shes asking for 5000?

does she really think someone is going to give her 5000$ to lose weight?

one of the main reasons the potato salad kickstarter got so much is that he was only asking for 10 dollars, he wasnt asking for a billiondy dollars.

5000$ to lose weight is fucking retarded when you can starve to low weight for free

They're great. If people want to spend money on silly things, good for them.

Hell, I should really make a kickstarter for something silly and see if I can rake in the cash.
