Van den Broucke and a few others commented that he was descending like a crazy person. And apparently there has been a new trend with taking high grade painkillers (which would be the reason why he kept cycling). Something called Tramadol. Another thing that could also be the reason is the stiffer carbon frames but that is more a road set in for 10+ years (in sync with the increase of crashes).
