Are computers hotter in the summer?

    Hey
wondering alittle why my computer is suddenly super hot during every game i play, is it because it's summer so everything it's hotter by defult and harder too cool down itself? My computer was never this hot earlier but started getting hot around june/july
Or could it be that it just have alot of dust in it?

A combination of both most likely. Airflow or the lack of it also is a factor in whether or not the computer is running hot. What are the temperatures outside and what are the temps of your computer?

Yeah, the ambient temperature is warmer, so the parts idle warmer. Keep it dust free and it should help a little, but you'll never go below room temperature without the likes of specialised cooling systems.

because its summer and yes the dust has a littel impact on it too

there are various things that effect the temps but yes, if your room temp is higher than it is in winter then ofc your pc is going to be at least a couple of degrees higher, but it also comes down to cooling, airflow and yes, if your heat sink is full of dust and hair then its not going to be dissipating heat properly.

The delta temperature between ambient temperature and idle temperatures is always the same. Meaning, if ambient temperature rises, so will your components' temperatures.
Many fans have an auto-curve, meaning they'll ramp up higher the warmer things get, but I doubt they could keep up with the temperature increase.

Yes, I keep the windows open and a fan on the go to stop my poor laptop from getting set on fire.

Thx for all the quick awnsers <3
Anyone have any measure tempature programs to recommend?
I did it an old fashion way earlier when i was playing tera put a thermometer on the open spot of the comp and it said around 40degrees, but that was just because i really felt like it was hotter then anything it had been before.. just had too to try xD

well i have open window, open door, and a fan on, but my comp is on the floor in a corner (but it got room to breath so no worries there i hope,) but don't think the fan-stuff reaches it xD

Doesn't really make a difference if it ain't by a window or sunlight.....A computer should be in a cool/dark place. Also you should dust out your computer every 6 weeks or so to keep it fresh...I use a air compressor to clean mine...Those bottled air cans suck and expensive.

HWmonitor, if your using an AMD system Overdrive is probably the best, and if you have an APU thermal margin isn't the temp its how far it is from throttling. (i was initially confused why my apu was idling at 70c)

there is also speedfan & easytune.

on hwmonitor it'll either be under the tab 'package' or it'll be one of the tmpin's for me i think its tmpin0 but from my searches it differs mobo to mobo.

If you don't have an AC, the less light coming in, the lower the temperature.
Problem is that if you're blowing already hot air around the room, it won't really cool it, it will just recirculate it.

That oxygen can is better for a keyboard..

I feel like everyone I know complains about their laptops getting too hot. My laptop (A Sager one off xoticpc) never gets that bad. Sure it gets pretty warm but I'm never concerned that its over heating.

Maybe you people just have it sitting on your lap or something the entire time?

Is that while you were idling (no games or intensive software running)? If it was you'll need to test again after a bit of stressing. Report the 'max' temperature under 'temperature 0' and 'temperature 3' after some gameplay.

    It was during SoO raid

since i noticed it was hotter while i was running tera, i'll boot that up after raid and see temp then or if i really wanna break the comp, tera and BF4 at the same time (The 2 games i notice the comp is the most hot on)

    +1

In the winter, the heat generated from the computer doesn't help at all to heat the room.
In the summer, even in idle state, it feels like a 1000 watt heater.

50c is pretty average, most hardware can handle 70+ before it starts breaking, i think intel have better thresholds, iirc their cpus can go into the 80 to 90c before they start damaging, where as most amd stuff starts crashing around 75-80c.

but 50c on load is perhaps average with a stock cooler. wouldn't hurt to pop the side and see if there is any wads of dust inbetween the heat sink fins.

you would know if either your cpu or gpu was too hot, for one you'll more than likely bsod, or your pc will simply shut off, if a gpu is overheating you'll see artefacts on screen.

This exactly. Circulating air around the room will make *you* feel cooler, because our bodies are cooled by evaporation. Computer components are NOT cooled by evaporation, so circulating air in the room will not help.

Is your computer in your house? Does your house have A/C? Summer has nothing to do with it...
