Sadly AMR has never been updated properly this whole expansion, you still have to configure it yourself to make it useful.

Best example is disc priest... on their website:

The default build for any disc priest in PVE is Spirit (until comfortable) > Crit > Mastery > Haste, it's been like that for 2 years now. Even their crit build is wrong...! haste has been the worst stat this whole expansion for discipline priests.

So paying for a site that is giving you false information, not really a good idea IMO. I mean it's ok, I can use it because I know my stat weight, but I find it incredible that something so simple as NEVER been updated for the WHOLE expansion. At least Icy Veins ask some class "specialists" to review the stats weight after every major content patch.

I also believe none of the suggested monk builds are good.

Must say, I miss the good old WORKING version of RAWR.

AMR is a tool that you use, and you need to use that tool correctly or else it wont give you the optimal optimization.

It's like saying "Oh this hammer can't cut wood as efficiently as a saw, so paying for a hammer is stupid!"

Thing is AMR doesn't really do much for most specs that you can't do yourself with some common sense and a couple of minutes at reforger.

If you can get your character optimized within 'a couple of minutes' then very good for you, for most people doing a few quadrillion combinations (as stated by the author of AMR) is very hard to accomplish in such a short time frame.

Most specs boil down to 1 secondary being best, 1 worst and 1 in between. So pretty much reforge out of the bad one, there's not that many specs were secondaries start overtaking others when stacking too much, unless like haste/global caps. Hit/expertise is also not that hard usually, mostly it's determined by (overinflated) gear. Some specs need to reforge out of all to get to 15%. Healers aren't hard either: spirit till you like, haste cap if it applies, then either crit/mastery.

Well I know that, but a casual person might not.. pretty sure many people just take the default build and press optimize.

I would expect if I was paying for it that it would be up to date, that is my point. They should just remove the suggested builds if they are obsolete.

AMRs great, but the paid option is just to support the site. Wowhead has something like that too

+1 on the free trial. Great way of doing it. For me personally it had no impact on my decision to sub. But what it did was to confirm me in my thoughts that figuring out where your upgrades are is one of the most fun aspects of the "passive" game. Why would I use a tool to do something that can be used to fill up those waiting gaps the game is full of?
I do however use AMR for hit/exp caps, and because the shopping list it creates is great. Those are simple calculations, but both iterative and boring, so why not have the robot do it? Scouting loot is a completely different ballgame and I do not want to outsource the tasks of drooling over loot lists and comparing to what I have to a robot. But once I got an upgrade from my list, I would want to get a machine to tell me how to gem and reforge to rebalance my stats after taking the new one into use.

With reforging and caps going away, I see the relevance going away. Right now it serves a purpose for lazy people and people who cannot comprehend theorycrafting. It allows the mid-range players to step a little closer to the masters of a class (given equal gear).
What I fail to see is how combat log parsing will help this group of people? I see the AMR user base drastically being reduced when reforging is removed, because I do not believe the bulk of them are the types that would sit and compare their parse with someone else of equal gear, so see how they did different for a given fight to get those extra 20% dps. Personally I think it would be a great post-raid asset, but I am probably not representing a very big group of players.

*shrug* 'theory'crafting gear, reforges and gemming etc. is part of the fun of character progression; one of the few things left if you've been raiding for 6+ years, I mean on the flipside its a tedious necessity that gets boring after 6+ years raiding but I just find I haven't got much else to do and I like arithmatic

So I would say it wasn't worth it even if you're mythic progress raiding; just do the work yourself

All you need is a little intelligence and common sense to work out which bosses should be coined.

Worth it imo, even if I wasn't raiding. Shows upgrade orders, coin roll chances and such. It's got everything you basically need atm - and a really good combat log reader which isn't as in depth as Warcraftlogs, but is far quicker to find simple things like death logs, last at or above 90% hp before dying, etc.

That all depends on the player's view on improvement. If a player doesn't want to improve (and thus stay mediocre) then depths of a combat log is probably lost to them. But for the players that want to get better, to be able to have DPS/Survivability then it could be a great value.

A simple look at the class forums shows that their are plenty of people who want to know "how" to be better at their class. Sometimes it could be as simple as keeping a DoT up or a buff up. Other times it might be optimization of spell rotation or talent usage. So a paid option for a combat logger might be some sort of analysis that would tell you things like: Your DoT uptime was low at X%, aim to reach 95%. Or you took X damage from Y mechanic but you could have used Z CD to reduce/avoid the damage. Or how about, X proc was up (and not used/wasted) for Y time which would have yielded and average increase of Z DPS.

No, it's not worth it at any level, especially not at higher levels. It's FAR too CONSISTENTLY wrong without extensive frontwork to be accurate for individuals.

    Don't bother.

$12 a year was definitely worth it for me. Of course I can do everything without it or with a free addon, but for the multiple alts I play on various difficulties, it's nice to have a one stop shop to tell me how to gem/reforge/enchant everything as quickly as possible. The "Best in Bags" feature is awesome too. I also gem/enchant/reforge my gear as soon as I get a drop in a minute or two because of the site and addon, so for me it has great value.

I subbed, because it was only 12$ a year, which is really nothing. I would be willing to pay that just to keep the free version available for everyone.
Out of the premium features I like the Best in Bags option best, especially when on alts I might get multiple drops from just one raid.
(And as a note, I am actually paying 12$/year, not 12€/year. Shouldn't even have to mention this, but these days it seems many companies do this...)

All the tools you need to play your class at almost perfect proficiency are free.

There are BiS lists everywhere to see what you need to go towards. Class forums for questions to other top hunters/parsers about how the best way to play is, etc. AMR reforging is free and includes gems, enchants, etc, you can use simulationcraft to sim your character and replace the bad default stat weights (I think some specs/classes have low info on them though, and tank/heal classes it's obviously more variable and you just need to follow guidelines which you can ask or find too).

One of the premium features I'm really looking forward to is the log analysis.

Valor upgrades was useful, but it wasn't hard to calculate on my own either.

The RoboCouncil for guild loot is nice, especially since you can set custom stat priorities for your raiders based on sims, and it's easier than arguing about what's a bigger upgrade for who.

I like the tool and I get good value out of it. The stat weights aren't always optimal out of the box, but they can be edited and more advanced players will definitely do that.

$12 a year to support a site I use regularly and enjoy is well worth it to me. They don't have ads on the tool so they have to make money to be able to operate somehow, I'm happy to pay for it.
