Actually, if you are a private school that is not offering a diploma or degree and not receiving any federal money then you are really not overseen by the government.

The United States wants to be the premier destination for poor uneducated hard working immigrants to stay poor uneducated and hard working... its easier to exploit their labor that way.

That suggests to me that someone stupid enough to think that homophones have anything to do with homosexuality would be easily confused and offended.

At the base all it is, is fear mongering.
Look at some of these posts, the subtext is all fear. Fear, fear, fear, then the presumption of judgement, because that makes a lot of sense. lol We should judge things we are afraid of, cause it's not totally about just pushing those things we fear away from us, I swear its about being fair. lol

This sort of thing would never (read: highly, highly unlikely) happen at a public school. Teachers unions, FTW.
Teacher's unions my arse. Try the fact that the administrator wouldn't be an absolute tard because the state would actually enforce a set curriculum. Granted, if the teacher went against that curriculum they would lose their contract and their job pretty quickly regardless of their union. This teacher was going against what the owner of the school felt was part of the curriculum.

Of course, he didn't think it was an appropriate part of the curriculum because he's incredibly ill-informed.

Except that all scientific evidence shows that homosexuality is a biological norm in many, many species. Also, I don't see the point where anyone is forcing you to be gay. The only thing I see is you thinking you are better than everyone else and needing any excuse to justify that.

I think being straight will always be the position of power and the situation of privilege. The problem is you are either to blind or to stupid to recognize your own privilege. The fact that you can walk down the street with your girlfriend holding hands and not have to worry about getting attacked for it is proof enough that you have extreme privilege.

I was under the impression that threads about sexuality were forbidden, and yet every day it seems there are multiple threads on homosexuality. Obviously it's something that OT wants to discuss. I wonder if the rules will change because of this, and if so, I wonder if religious topics will also someday be allowed because it seems most threads derail into that as well.

    Interesting to think about.

I'm not sure he can since I've been to San Francisco and even there you can't openly be yourself the entire city over. There is less homophobia, but it still exists. Also, I am pretty sure this can't possibly be scientific fact since every scientist that studies the matter completely disagrees.

This thread has survived because it has, mostly, stayed away from "is gay/straight a choice" and "religion is good/bad reason for things" territory, and mostly focused on "was this a reasonable conclusion for the administrator to reach."

The general consensus seems to be no. No, this was not a reasonable conclusion for the administrator to reach.

We do not feed off of being underdogs. Actually, we would like to simply be ignored period. Give us the same rights as everyone else and then completely ignore us. That is awesome sounding.

Also, the most comfortable place I have ever been (and I have been to a great deal of open minded cities in both USA and Europe) is Galveston, Texas. In Galveston, the gay community and the straight community is so intermingled that you can honestly walk the strip and see a gay bar and a straight bar sharing the same wall with nothing at all being said about it.

I disagree. I think Michael Sam wants to be known and judged for his sports accomplishments. He just doesn't want to hide who he is as a person either. The fact that people are exploiting his gayness is not of his doing, and I do feel that his gayness is being exploited since he is the first OPENLY gay football player.

Well there is a really simple test... Do you identify openly with being gay? Well then you must be a cultural gay. Anyone that would attempt to promote themselves as being an open gay would by far be a "cultural gay." The born gays are the ones that live in the closet ashamed and try to pray the gay away!

Odd... since my partner is one of of the leading attorneys in our area. He is also openly gay. He also is highly sought after donations and such since we have a very decent income... if only we were busy playing the victim we wouldn't have to worry about this whole living life thing... damn! Look, I don't want everyone to be gay. Sure, I have looked at a straight man or two and said damn he's fine, I wouldn't mind some of that, but even then I don't want him to be gay for more than one encounter... I think the same could be said of every straight man that has viewed a hot lesbian. Hell, there is an entire porn spectrum devoted to straight men that want to "convince" a lesbian to be straight for them.

We don't allow sexuality discussions on MMO-C and almost all the posting has drifted from the news article to that. Closing.
