If you're a respectful, decent human being the majority of us will like you. Granted we also tend to dissect a person culturally to better understand them, but don't take that as an offense, it's genuine curiosity and friendliness.

Now, in some states and (especially) cities you might run the risk of some stupid asshole making a derogatory comment about you, your country, your leaders, or your nation's history. However, especially in the smaller-town/city areas of New England and the Midwest, if you assert yourself as a decent, well-standing human being, people will treat you very well, or at the very least normally.

As a fair warning on the whole derogatory statements thing: Some people believe Russia is still a fully-fledged communist state. Elderly people might call you a communist. Others may call you a damned Red or "Ruski" ("proper" spelling russkiye / русские). Just shrug it off and avoid those people. Again, if you assert yourself as a decent human being who is willing to accept American culture and ways of life, then you'll be just fine.

On another note, what kind of Pennsylvanian community are you planning to live in? Small mining/transport/farming community? City suburb? Inner-city apartment? How fancy or extravagant are you planning to live?

Just come to Canada! We have a lot in common with Russia such as most of the north being a barren wasteland of permafrost and an obsession with rough-housing and alcohol. Well, that's Canada anyway, I don't know if any of that applies to Russia. It's still cold here so there's that. Not to mention the fact that immigration is as easy as asking. We let in about 250,000 immigrants in each year and we've lost track of 41,000 illegal immigrants.

I'm planning to move with my wife probably in ~3-5 years, when we have some money saved up.

Yeah, I know there are plenty topics like this out there in Google, but I thought I'd ask here since I'm mostly communicating with, well, "outer world" via WoW.
The U.S. is a melting pot. You'll find all nationalities and races with every turn. You just need to go with the flow and blend in with everyone. As long as you get used to everyone else, everyone else won't have a problem getting used to you; it's how America works.

I live in PA. What makes this state stand out to you?
I don't imagine any Caucasian immigrant should have much trouble assimilating. As long as you have a decent mastery of the English language you wont have issue.

I haven't really met a Russian immigrant. Though I wouldn't mind you and I hope you enjoy your stay with the US.

I live in Philly as well. There is a large Russian population here, especially in the North East. I was actually engaged to one for 4 years, but didn't work out.

Why you want to move away from glorious Russia?

I live in PA.. Pittsburgh is nice in PA, but I live in the state Capital, Harrisburg. Papenfuse is trying to get the city turned around, but he has only been in for 6 months. Regardless, those 6 months make the old mayor look like a joke. I wouldn't move to philly. You either love philly or hate it. Great place to visit, but id live in burbs if it was my call in that area. Allentown, Scranton and Erie are should be avoided.

Pittsburg, philly or Harrisburg/york/Lancaster are you best chances of finding work and enjoying the USA.

Really for all the hate and news about the USA, most people are fine with immigrants. And it is a great place to live. Don't let media scare you.

In all honesty you will be fine here. Dont believe all the crap that Americans are painted as. We are a country that if you treat us right we will treat you right. There will be an idiot or two to deal with, but that is anywhere you go. I probably can say I speak for alot if not anyone who is an American on these forums welcome. You will love it here.

you are better off in russia.

This. There are countless Korean churches, multicultural fests , Latino culture group, and way more places where people celebrate their own culture. The only thing that changes is 1) English is the primary language you will be speaking and 2) have American culture (sports, work, food, school, weather, basically way of life). You can still watch Russian sports, religion, cars, good, speak it, and could even open up a russian restaurant and (if the foods good) do great.

Sad reality and something I hate about my fellow Americans: As long as you are white, and not Muslim, most Americans will be supportive.

There is a large Russian population in the US, do be aware however Americans will be fine with you and you wife, the issue is other Russians who have moved to the US. Some have organized in to crime syndicates. Not to say this is a majority, it's just the loudest group.

    Do you speak English?

If Yes, welcome. If No, GTFO.

That is all I give a dam about.

Why try and turn it into a race thing? Seriously?
And now the "loudest group" of Russian immigrants are in organized crime syndicates?

I've had the chance to travel Internationally a fair amount and have come to the conclusion that generally speaking we all want the same things. Someone to spend our lives with, a nice family and home, a fair job. The rest are mostly misconceptions from news and movies that the Internet has just made worse. Also, one bit of advice would be to not have your hopes so high as to be unreasonable. Like all places in the world, there are good and bad points. I worked with a lady that moved to the US from the UK and her hopes were so high when she came here that she was disappointed, even though things for her were fine (good house, good job, etc). What I have heard from friends who have moved to the US from Russia and Eastern Europe is that people here in the US are less direct and more reserved. For Americans, we feel like we are direct, but by comparison we are much less so. Like others have said, there are similarities between us. You'll find in the much of the US and especially in Philadelphia that hockey is popular and the winters will feel familiar.
