I find it impossible for a Swedish citizen to be traumatised or hurt in Israel. It would cause too much trouble for Israel if that were to happen.

Sounds like a valuable experience. Granted, if it were me, I would have likely stuck to videos. But if he had the opportunity to do it safely? That's some grade A parenting.

The fact that his kids play games is irrelevant. Raising ignorant kids is inexcusable, and far too many parents allow it to happen these days.

Also of note, he's been there before, as a journalist. So it's not like a random Swedish dad decides to go to Israel in the middle of a war without having any clue, as most people on this thread suggest.

But, but, they don't have protective bubbles for children there :P

    Exactly.

Well, he took them to Syria as well.

    Heh ^^

They kind of have. If a European citizen was actually going to get hurt, it would cause so much trouble for Israel and Hamas too (mainly). It's commonplace to avoid hitting different nationalities when nuking. Too many implications to consider afterwards.

Strange that you don't answer to the points you asked for btw :P

    Also of note
"Video games in themselves are not bad," Helgegren clarified.

"But in Sweden and Europe we are very privileged. We have all this wealth and rights and social services. And with that comes the responsibility to educate ourselves and not just become zombies playing video games and consuming hamburgers."
Sounds like someone knows how to raise children. More kudos.

No, I asked howw likely it would be for them to be harmed. I didn;t ask you to compare their home to Israel.

There is a very large difference in playing CoD or battlefield, and seeing a a human shot dead in real life.

Some people just dont get that.

Seeing war can have some traumatic effects on young children. To me this dad seems strange.

I think a simple carnage video would suffice.

    Or.. like 10 of them.

    As many as it takes.

I guess that's why I avoid posting in such threads. People don't read the article, make a non existent story in their minds, jump on the gun, and just blindly shoot.

They weren't there recently. When they visited the area the current conflict hadn't started. They probably weren't in real danger and he could show his kids what the real war aftermath looks like. I think that's good parenting because he shows his kids the real thing and they see it with their own eyes and have to believe it. Showing them some videos or articles don't have that big impact and most people nowadays think that war is fun because of games like CoD or BF or news where they show heroic and happy soldiers in warzones.

He should teach them about gangs next and take them to east Detroit or west Baltimore.

They were not under any risk in Israel. If he took them to somewhere like Gaza, on the other hand..

Nah, he should take them to El Salvador or Honduras for teaching them about gangs.

He took them to meet soldiers in order that the people in their games that they are mindlessly shooting became real. A lot of people do this without realising it, e.g. when I visited my relatives in Cyprus as a child we heard stories about the Turkish invasion and my cousins fighting in it - soldiers stopped being some anonymous irrelevance you saw getting shot in a film and became real people, with real families (including me).

In one of the Austin Powers' films, there was a scene where a random guard is being run over, and the film switches to his wife and child talking about how they can't wait for him to get home, it's played for laughs but the message is pretty much the same as what this guy did, i.e. that isn't just a nameless statistic, that's a real person, with people who love him, it could be you.

It appears that he didn't put his children in any real danger, and hopefully they learnt a lesson that a lot of people who post on here could do with learning.

That's a pretty hardcore dad. Regardless of whether it was the right decision or not, he's got balls, so he's winning there.

Good that he did it, though. I would have supported it even if the kids weren't playing video games or watching movies or whatnot. Learning about the extremes of violence is a fantastic way to convince people to not commit them.
If you are particularly bold, you could use a Shiny Ditto. Do keep in mind though, this will infuriate your opponents due to Ditto's beauty. Please do not use Shiny Ditto. You have been warned.

Hmm. People who get hit by their parrents in their childhood are more prone to hit their own children according to statistics. Violence breeds violence some people say. I'm not really sure though.

Sometimes i think its people themselves that got some loose strings inside and there aint nothing you can do about it.
