    HR Stuff

So I work for one of the bigger companies in the world at the moment. And I've never really had any issues, complaints etc.

Today I got an email from HR that thanked ME for contacting them and gave me a case ID.
Oddly enough I got a followup email that said thank you for contacting us about case blah we have forwarded the case to the Global Mobility department.

There was no other information in the two emails.

Odder still is, I interviewed pretty solidly for a promotion this morning.

Seems a lot to be happening for one day, not sure if I should be freaking out lol.

EDIT: Asking here because HR is closed right now so I can't call and ask /

You're either about to be fired or relocated.

    I dunno.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

Someone vouched for you to go somewhere very far away. Do you have enemies within the management?
Rincewind: Ah! We may, in fact, have reached the root of the problem. However it's a silly problem and so I am suddenly going to stop talking to you.

Well I wouldn't turn down a free trip around the world on the companies dime. haha.

I'd like to think a department other than global mobility would handle it if it was something I was getting fired for though.

I wish I could figure out whether global mobility handled promotions, I can't for the life of me imagine why anything would be sent to that department lol.

Ugh so frustrating on the nerves.

Would that promotion you were interviewing for have required moving? Or even changing offices? It could be that some sub-department under "global mobility" would be in charge or getting the contractors to move stuff from one office to another.

Pretty sure "global mobility" wouldn't be involved if you were getting fired though. Typically, that involves getting called into your manager's office with an HR person present and security waiting to escort you out afterward. And it's so routine (for a big company there's someone getting fired pretty regularly) that I wouldn't see someone screwing up and giving you a hint ahead of time. That's the kind of mistake that can get an HR person fired.

Edit: Also, if you have a case ID, can't you go into the system and look up the case? There should be something there.

Global Mobility is just getting you set up to work in another country, generally speaking. They'll talk you through what the policy is and what you're entitled to in terms of moving allowance, COLA, annual leave, house hunting trip, etc.

Bizarre, if the position you interviewed for is local. But then again, you might have impressed them so much that they want to send you off to bigger and better things. Large firms (generally speaking) are usually shit hot at stuff like employee relocation. I was moved to the UK for six years, and they spent nearly 10 months just getting everything ready for me - work visa, accommodation, car, wife's visa, the works. Basically the only the thing we had to do was get on our flight.
