not very often. i've become very good at repressing every minor and major pain i have. i'm pretty much the emotional equivalent of a tree stump.

I honestly cant remember ever having cried. Though i'm sure i did as an infant. As a toddler, my parents were actually afraid i may have been autistic because i was so quiet. One thing i do know is that i have had a furious and violent temper for as long as i can remember.

Cut to now, almost 35 years later and i'm all growed up as a fine upstanding functional sociopath who can barely empathize with anyone and cares only about himself. Yay.

Only time I cry is when I get too drunk and start traveling down memory lane. It'll be 5 hours past midnight, Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is roaring at 98% on my speaker system, I start singing along and that's when the feelz come, everytime. Goddammit, Jeff.

How so? How does not crying help anyone, and how is suppressing an emotional response rather than facing it a sign of strength?

How does it make you strong to not cry?

How does crying help anyone? And you aren't suppressing it if you choose not to feel it in the first place.

Certain movies, books and TV shows make me tear up, but it takes a relative's death to give me a good sobbing cry.

    So not very often.

You can't choose to not feel emotions...

Shows that you're more in control, and control=strength.

I think you've got it down pretty wrong.

And if you chose to feel emotion and to cry? Isn't making yourself not feel it just the easy way out?

Actually this idea that it is good to release your emotions have been proven wrong over and over again. For some odd reason we seem to think of our brain as a pressure cooker and crying as lifting the lid....that isn't how it works.

Of course, control does not equal strength in all situations, sometimes it can be a sign of collectedness.

It's not always easy, but it does make you less distracted.

Also cried at Schindler's List, but I was not the only one that time. :P
Schindler's list was a great movie, it didn't make me cry, but my mother and sister were flooding the gates with their tears.
