I was wondering if what Venjer said way back in 2011 is correct or not? I'd like to solo Conclave on normal and then switch it to heroic for Al'akir. Is this possible? Also, what if you've only ever killed it on heroic? Are you out of luck for a week and have to clear it on normal?

You dont have to kill Conclave on heroic to try out Al'akir heroic. You just have had to kill both Conclave and Al'akir on normal to enable hard modes for both encounters.

I killed Conclave on normal and did heroic Al'akir literally three weeks ago. It's possible.

As for the second question I can't say.
